Re: History and Timeline of the Peavey Bandit
bought a brand spankin' new silver stripe bandit back in 95 when they first hit our local peavey dealer.
removed my brains sometime in 2005 and traded it in for a piece of poop crate. have regretted it ever since.
next to my C30, it was the best amp i ever owned.
i want my bandit back

I posted a quick video of how you can address a reverb tank malfunctioning, good luck, it fixed mine! I forgot how nice these reverbs are, yummy.

Re: History and Timeline of the Peavey Bandit
Very nice post and info.
Mine belongs to the last generation. It's actually placed side by side a Marshall JVM410C that I purchased recently, but the Bandit will remain for practice sessions, it sounds really great at low volumes and there is no need for warming it. Plus, now I'm in love with the High-Gain distortion mode, I wonder how an speaker replacement would make it sound just perfect.
Great amp, a true bargain.

Re: History and Timeline of the Peavey Bandit
Does your Bandit have the Scorpion or Sheffield speaker? I have a teal stripe Bandit with the Scorpion speaker and it sounds very dynamic with that speaker. It has a nice rounded tone with great bottom end and crunch when using the drive channel.mohi wrote:Very nice post and info.

It has a Blue Marvel, it's not that bad, perhaps a bit too harsh, something warmer would work perfectly.

Re: History and Timeline of the Peavey Bandit
The Blue Marvel is a decent speaker that works for certain amps and maybe not for others. Aside from some of the different Peavey speakers, you could look into WGS speakers or Mojotone speakers.

excellent timeline. I have been looking at some Bandits on eBay and this really helps me out as I am looking for a "Made in USA" model.
Once again,great job.

Thanks for taking the time to put this together. I have been looking at Peavey amps at local pawn shops and sometimes it is hard remembering info on these amps, this will help a lot.

I have the '89-90's green stripe solo and I went inside the other day to spray clean the pots and things. They have 2 sockets for Op-amp RC4558P and RC4558 ... so technically you could switch these around and maybe get some different gain structures ... food for thought .. {P.S... I tried it, it sucked, leave it alone, just got noisier and more hiss ....}

Re: History and Timeline of the Peavey Bandit
I've started calling the latest incarnation of the Bandit the "Cyclops Bandit", as the oval logo plate kind of looks like a single eye... And a Cyclops is definitely cooler than a Codpiece...GennyFan wrote:Due to cosmetics, I like the name "Codpiece Bandit" for the most recent Bandit, but is there another name besides "the latest" or "Codpiece" that can be used to describe this version?
