Peavey Artist Vt, need help.

Post by DavidFromAsturias » Sat Nov 03, 2012 9:49 am

Hello everyone, this is my first post here in the Peavey Forum.

I have the opportunity of buying a Peavey Artist Vt with a Black Widow speaker. The amp seems to be nice, but I want to be sure of a couple of things.

How is the clean sound in this amp? Does it takes effects well?

My objective with this is amp is to run it as a good clean platform to play with stompboxes in front of it, will it suit my needs?

Thanks for your help.

I am going to a new restaurant tomorrow, they serve lobster. Will I like lobster?

The thing to do is play through the amp. Only you can detrmine if you like the sound of it. THose amps are clean and strong through the power amp. The preamp you like or don;t. Yes, it should make clean very well, but that doesn't mean you will like it with your pedals. IN fact "clean" is not generic. You might like some clean amps and not others. SO really, audition the amp. If someone selling an amp won;t let a prospective buyer play through, I'd get real suspicious.

Aside from whether you like the amp or not, there is also the matter of condition. The greatest amp on earth is not such a deal if all the controls are noisy and the jack is loose.

I understand what you tell me, but I cannot try the amp... I asked about it because I found it as a deal.

It costs 400 dollars (315 euros) with new valves and the original footswitch.

Price seems high for older series amp.

Negotiate with seller for lower price.

The seller won't change the price of the amp, but he says that if I'm not comfortable with it I can return it. Should I risk?

I own one of these Artists, they take pedals well, and will stay clean. I use mine for a clean bold sound of its own. Kinda like a Fender twin in a 1-12. If you just want to run pedals through it, why not buy a cheaper SS peavey? Say a Bandit 65 or a Special 130? They are plentiful and will withstand a earthquake! Can't go wrong with a old Peavey, Just my 2 cents!

I thought about those amps, but the only way I can buy them in Spain is through eBay USA that will result in a lot of money beetween the shipping costs and the taxes. Usually, musical equipment is more expensive in my country...

Do the tubes of the Artist make a huge difference compared to a Bandit or to the Special?

Tube powered amps have additional "Mojo" above and beyond solid state amps.
