Peavey Versarray vs. JBL VRX932
Has anyone had the pleasure of comparing the Peavey Versarray and the JBL VRX line array? On paper they appear very comparable. Just curious how they sound in person.

Re: Peavey Versarray vs. JBL VRX932
VRX Pros:
Louder
Easier to rig (built in flyware)
easier for beginners (built in crossovers, sound OK with little EQ)
Pole mounts are great for small gigs
Cons:
Constant Curve (completely defeats the purpose of using an array system)
Max 6 box Hang
Matching sub is not very powerful
Ugly boxes (IMO)
Versarray Pros:
SOUND QUALITY!
Adjustable angles
Field replaceable baskets
Cost effective
Cons:
Bi-amp only and VSX is a must
Rigging is annoying (fixed by buying quick-pins)
Takes more boxes then the VRX system to get as loud.
You can add 100 things to these lists, but these are the main things ive noticed from using both systems. Both systems have their places, it really depends on what you need to accomplish and your overall budget.

V5 for VRX series was just released last week so audio quality is at least as good as the Versarray if not better. However, to run V5, the systems are not close to be in the same pricing segment.
VR - Very challenging getting the rig to sound consistant within the coverage area when angling the array.

No, they do not appear to be the same on paper. How do you get that? Their coverage is no where close to being the same. The rigging of the VRX is MUCH easier, but because it is fixed. The cabinets cannot do a straight vertical. The JBL VRX and QSC KLA Arrays are NOT line arrays.studiodtk5 wrote:Has anyone had the pleasure of comparing the Peavey Versarray and the JBL VRX line array? On paper they appear very comparable.
