I really like my IPR's. I have 7 of them.
3 IPR3000
4 IPR1600
But now 3 of them are dead in the water. Here's what's going on:
IPR3000:

IPR1600:

The other IPR lights up blue, the blue gets brighter when powered on, but it just doesn't "kick in" and start up, if that makes sense. I'm checking to see if there's any warranty left on them. Either way I'll have them fixed and I'll start looking at other brands. I need reliability, I'm only as good as my last show. I normally have backups and backups for my backups. I like the lightweight and they've been good so far, it's just the last month.
I'm thinking QSC.
The good news is the repair guy in the city is slow as f***, and I won't hear anything for at least 4 months.
The bad news is that I'm kidding about the good news. It will be a solid 4 months before I get them back.
3 dead IPR's out of 7. Might be time to change brands.

Liking the ad for IPR series amps under my post.
Ironic, or poetic?

Chief suspect: Power spikes. 90% of the failures I've had as a dealer of these has been with power spikes wherever the end user had them plugged in.
There's a fix for it and it seems to be permanent, at least I haven't seen any that were factory repaired come back again.
Oh, and by the way, FIRE WHOEVER YOU ARE TAKING THEM TO!! Send them to Peavey in Meridian, MS. Turnaround time is usually around a month at the most. Here's the info:

Many field technicians do not have the skill set to repair amplifiers using class D technology.,
Re: 3 dead IPR's out of 7. Might be time to change brands.
go with crown!! never problems with that and also class D + DSP

I'm in Canada, so I have to take them back to where I got them, and then they send them to their guy.Josjor wrote:Chief suspect: Power spikes. 90% of the failures I've had as a dealer of these has been with power spikes wherever the end user had them plugged in.

Umm, I'm pretty sure the FedEx/UPS trucks run from here to Canada and back. Yep, just checked. I get some straps and things from a company in Canada and sure enough, they didn't come via the Mounted Police. Plain ol' FedEx truck.robare99 wrote:I'm in Canada, so I have to take them back to where I got them, and then they send them to their guy.Josjor wrote:Chief suspect: Power spikes. 90% of the failures I've had as a dealer of these has been with power spikes wherever the end user had them plugged in.

True enough. If its warranty I'll get them done here, if I have to pay I'll send them there.Josjor wrote:Umm, I'm pretty sure the FedEx/UPS trucks run from here to Canada and back. Yep, just checked. Funny you should say this. I watched Greg's video (Peavey Rep.) at NAMM 2014 where he says the IPR amps on display at the show ran for 2 hours at 215 volts. Check out the videoJosjor wrote:Chief suspect: Power spikes. 90% of the failures I've had as a dealer of these has been with power spikes wherever the end user had them plugged in.

Let me know what you think because I have had nothing but problems with 2 IPR2 7500 DSP and 1 IPR2 7500 and yes I am using the Peavey Distro. If what you say is true, why have I read on this blog that you don't need to use a surge suppression unit. I wish I would have used the 2 Furman PS-Pro II SMP+ surge suppression units that I have. Please let me know what you think as I do not have much hair left to pull out...

I am very happy with my four IPR-1600 amplifiers

I don't know that I think anything. I'm just relaying my experience as a dealer: 80% of the failures I've had in were people plugged into the same circuit as things like compressors or with a 100' extension cord. About 15% were folks cranking the hell out of it with a two ohm load. The remaining 5% were other issues, usually DOA from the factory.TKO wrote:

Every brand has it's bummers. Although some of the early IPR stuff seems to have a bit of a reputation for issues, PV has a rock solid repair/return policy. I had two of my IPR3000's go down and they took care of it no questions asked. (and no fee charged) I have 8 IPR's, no intention of switching brands because of past issues.
