Would a Peavey Distro be suitable?

Post by drummercali » Wed Jan 28, 2015 1:05 pm

This question relates more to the distro than amps, but I thought I'd start here.

So, in big settings, I use six CS4080s (2 for mids, 2 for subs, and 2 for monitors) and two CS1400s (for highs).

Most of the time, I am provided with an AC panel provided by the venue or festival, but I am considering getting a Distro (along with 100' of 6/4 SOOW) for those instances when I am not provided with one.

Would a Peavey Distro handle this much or should I have one built?

Thanks.
John

The guy doing sound is usually expected to supply Band Power too. And someone will always ask if the can get power for a Moon Bounce also.

Hell-o Sir; I have two of the peavey distros. they work great for what they are. I also employ several crest amps (cc5500) that are 30 amp 110. I would advise to build a portable distro. i would go 150-200' on the feed and wire your various plugs thru their breakers. those 4080hz will trip a 20 by themselves if your pushing really lows hard. i'd like to see one of those with a 30 amp iec with the right inrush capaciters and such. good luck

Sure, a Peavey Distro would be a great addition to your setup.

I would highly recommend getting more than 100 feet of 4/4 SO cable, instead of the 6/4 cable (this will result in less loss and better power transfer). Also, I would recommend building a 10-15 foot long adapter cable to go from the NEMA 14-50 to the big Hubble California connector so you can just plug it in whenever you come across either configuration. Portable generators will usually have the California connectors on them while it is more common to find the 14-50R inside venues.

Thank you all.

I had planned to have several different adapters on hand in case I need them.

Our local utility company provides portable distro at all the festivals and public events in town and the lead in on that is 6/4 and it always does fine. I think I will be okay with that, considering the rig I run. It's not massive by any stretch of the imagination.

I have a certified master electrician friend who can build a portable distro. I was just thinking of the convenience of the Peavey unit.

Again, thanks everyone

Sometimes that agency listing makes all the difference in the world.

The Peavey Distro is ETL listed. Anything made by someone will not be.
