Hey folks, Newbie on this forum. My 16FX gave me the "cutting out" for the very first time after years of use.
Mine is intermittent but I won't take a risk to use this on a paid gig as DJ/Musician.
Is there a quick fix that I can do by myself? My Firmware version is 131b

I am worried that this will eventually happen on my 32FX too.

I am from Canada. Is there a Peavey Repair Center in here somewhere?

Thanks in advance!

The modification is pretty simple, if you can solder at all. Please see the attached instructions.

This looks very straight forward. i guess the only difficult part is disassembling the whole mixer to get to the board in question. Thank you for this. If I ever come a cross a 1st gen doing this I can easily fix it.

Thanks Jim!

Hi Jim,

I just want to make sure that this reply is for me 16FX cutting out before I do any action (not for somebody else with fader problems).

Thanks
Jodi

Yes, the post is for you. Normally, if it's a fader issue, the cut-out can be associated with movement on the fader. You can try wiggling it a little, while playing music through it. Does the cutting out coincide with the wiggle? Then there's your problem. If not, then the fix I posted should take care if it. One other note, this mod is for FX mixers built pre 2011. The "fix" went into production units starting in Feb of 2011.

Hmmn... I better check my 16FX and 32FX production dates then.

Thanks, Jim!

Hello,
I have a Peavey 16FX mixer with the same problems as described here. After a while the output goes off with digital noise. The display also goes blank or is distorted. The serial number is K0509242. The things i already did: replaced the display connector, the flatcable to the main board (12pin) and add mod 2, the capacitor 47uf and a resistor 100k. The problem still persist. Is there anything more i must do to restore this fine mixer? What is the root of the problem?

The problem with the shutdown gets real weird. If i put the unit on the side it runs fine. Upside down also no problems. I also made a metal case aroud the power supply. The idea is interference with the digital board right above it. Also no result. All DC levels noted aroud the capacitors on the board. No differences between a running board and a stuck system. Could it be the LCD itself?
Any suggestions?

Continuing story about the 16FX mixer,

The problem that the mixer runs fine upside down must be temperature related. It is the only logical expanation left after the things i've done. New display connector, shield aroud the power supply, new flatcable, peavey modification, new software etc.
So i placed a fan on the bottom panel and connected it to the 12V output on the power supply. In serie a 100 Ohm 3W potmeter, also reachable trough the bottom panel. The fan direct on 12V is to noisy. And now the mixer runs fine. If i disable the fan the freezing problem returns. So in my opinion a reasonable solution. Hope i can help others with this problem.
