New VIP 1 owner question
New VIP 1 owner question
I just got a VIP 1 as a second amp in my home studio. Thought it would be mostly a practice toy but, omg was I surprised! I cant believe that much low end and volume come out of an 8" speaker, kudos Peavey. My question is... it seems most folks issues revolve around usb use and firmware updates. I record the proper way via a micd cab, no disrespect to fans of direct. Therefor, do I really need to perform firmware updates? I love this little monster and dont want it locking up or bugging out on me.

Re: New VIP 1 owner question
It depends...
1.62 from 1.61 does absolutely nothing I've noticed, but it was done for a reason.
if, like me, you have a sampera there is the suggested update (to come) that stops the looper jumping to postgain max on play back, then that update is a must...: I have the sanpera 1,apart from not having access to 400+ presets not 16 and an lcd screen it does everything the 2 can and is cheeper than the amp...
Oh, if you like the amp then a sanpera is a must.
You get a looper, access to all 16 presets at your feet, pedal for vol and "aux" which the manual has wrong, it is a wah for effects it doesnt alter (comp, tube scream, boost, not a full list yet) but for those it does it alters the p1 (chorus, wah, rotary, phase, flange, pitch shift, dont have a full list of this either) so anything wher p1 is a rate rather than level...
only downside, if your recording the buttons have a very audible clunk - great to demo feature for durability, not for subtle engaging.

Thanks for the info. I dont need the Sanpera though, I use a Boss RC30 for looping live. Got this mostly on a whim but I do intend to mic it and record with the high gain stuff, I will configure the preset to taste beforehand. My pedalboard lives with my Fender Super Champ which has a sweet clean channel but I dont care much for the second channel of gain models. Thats where the Vypyr will take over.Earl Dukedog wrote:It depends...

Re: New VIP 1 owner question
The Vypyr VIPs and and previous Vypyrs have really great high gain models. But they also have decent clean models as well. I made a clean Deluxe Reverb patch using the VIPs blackface setting with the pre gain cranked and the post gain backed off. Running the post gain high and backing off the pre a little bit sounds more like a Twin.
I compared my Deluxe Reverb patch to my Deluxe Reverb Reissue with TungSol 6V6s and a '60s Telefunken in V1 and a JAN Philips in V2. The Vypyr's patch sounded as good as the tube amp at moderate volumes, at moderate reverb the only audible difference was the DRRI had some spring artifact and a bit more reverb dwell than the Vypyr.
Sure surprised me.
So the VIP is the amp I haul to modeate volume rehearsals.

Go to the link below. I just posted my clean sound. Really smooth warm clean sound using the Twin amp. I have a VIP3 but should work for the VIP1.
