Peavey T-60 saddle, pickups and other replacement parts

Post by PlanetEarth » Thu Jun 23, 2011 7:06 pm

Hi all.

I'm new here, but I've had my black/rosewood T-60 since 1984, and I'd like to get it fixed up a bit. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble finding a "one-stop shop" for parts like the pickups and potentiometers and the saddle. (I'd heard Seymour Duncan had pickups for the T-60, but I couldn't find any other info on this.)

Does anyone know where I can get parts for this great-sounding guitar? I'd like to stay with OEM parts if possible, but really, I just want the guitar back in working order.

Also, I tried to search this forum for "t-60", but I got an error saying that none of the posts contained "t-60". When I tried to search for "t 60", I was told that my search terms had to have at least three letters in each word. Since there's no consistency as to how people have posted the product name, I figured I'd just start (what is probably) another thread on this.

Thanks!

Steve

Hello!

T60mafia.com has a plethora of information. There's a list of sites that stock parts on there as well.

I was actually scouring Ebay a few weeks ago to finish off a body I have... and it seems the parts total out higher than the full guitar most of the time. : \ Knobs routinely go 15-18 *each*. O.o Ended up getting a complete one.

Hi PlanetEarth,

Go check out www.belongingsbroker.com

If they don't have the part you're looking for on their website, give them an email and let them know what you're looking for.

Also, I second Advent's recommendation of joining the T-60 Mafia. Lots of great info there. I believe Frank N. Peavey can point you out to another T-60 parts dealer.
Current Peavey roster:
Composer acoustic, Fury bass, Falcon Standard, Patriot (hardtail), Patriot (tremolo), Predator, Reactor, T-15

Non-Peavey
Squier Affinity Starcaster, Taylor 314ce acoustic

I have a list of parts and the supplier at the T-60 Mafia forum. I've been without a computer for the better part of a month and am stuck checking the forums from the library.

Thanks all. I'd read about the T-60 Mafia forum, but I'd also read that some people were having problems getting access to it. I was also hoping the "official" Peavey forum would have some resources. (And to be honest, while I appreciate any "assistance" the Mafia could give me, I'm deathly afraid of what I might have to do when it comes time to "return the favor".)

I've already checked out belongingsbroker.com, and while he had some nice-looking parts there, from what I could tell, he only had one of each. I'll look into it again, though, and I'll check out the Mafia forum and check out Mr. Peavey's listings, too. (And Frank, I'm a computer consultant, so if you need help with your PC, send me a PM and I'll see if I can give you some advice on what to do.)

Thanks again, everyone.

bridge saddles

"This is just another heads-up for those who are ordering saddles from StewMac. There are several sets that look
alike, but the ones closest to the T-60 saddles are the #0025 set. They are a little narrower than the T-60 ones, but
the intonation screws will align them. Remember to use the screws that come with them as they are metric, and I
wanted the T-60s & T-40s to use more easily-replaced American threads. (The #0179 saddles will work, also)."

Pickup Adjustment Screws

"The pu height screws are the same on 60 & 40. They are 6-32 x 1" and are self-tapping, although the self-tapping isn't
necessary on replacement screws.

FYI: I've never printed this, but if your plastic "legs" on some T-60 or 40 pickups are stripped, you can change to 8-32
screws for the "T-60" look, or, of course, use the original screws with a Gibson pu ring. I have inserted brass threaded
slugs when I find stripped plastic threads, but not everybody has them handy. Chip"

That's very helpful, thank you!

I'd been to several of those Websites when I started to look for replacement parts, and I've bookmarked them for future reference.

One thing I didn't see on this list though, is a pickup. Mine are a little rusted and I don't know if I can just clean them or if I should replace them. I believe rust can have an effect on the tone, but if you all think that's not really an issue, then I won't bother replacing the pickups (even if I could find some).

I haven't found anyone making a pickup that would match the toaster or blade visually. Chip Todd has stated several times that he likes the Carvin M22 pickup when he didn't have a T-60 pickup to use.

If you want to stay with stock pickups you'll have to watch the auction sites or look for a basket case T-60 to use as a parts guitar. Some guys on here and the T-60 Mafia Forum have T-60 pickups available from time to time.

This is all great information, and I certainly appreciate everyone's input!

Before I start scavenging old T-60s and ripping the guts out of mine, would the rust affect the tone that much, or is it really not that big a deal? If they can be cleaned (or filed, or whatever)...then I'd rather try that.

When I brought it to Sam Ash yesterday to have the intonation adjusted and the jack replaced, the tech didn't mention replacing the pickups. Of course, Sam Ash didn't have any replacements anyway, so that might be why.

Vinegar is good for removing rust safely. Not sure if I'd try to soak it though. Just apply with q-tip, might take awhile but will remove just the rust. Once the rust is gone can use wax or oil to keep from rusting again.

I don't believe the tone would be affected by rust.

That's good to know! I'll try the vinegar, and if it doesn't work, I won't worry.

Thanks again, everyone!

May want to soak a paper towel in vinegar and then let it sit on top of the affected area. Can do that first and walk away and go among your business for the day and then come back to it with q-tips and what not.
