T-27 been in a 30 year time capsule!!!

Post by mve4158 » Sun Mar 04, 2012 7:20 am

First of all, new to the the Peavey site, just bought my first Peavey, a T-27 in metalic red, not the Limited though. I've been told the red was only offered on the Limited models, but this appears to be 100% original, was the red an option on the non-Limited model? I saw it listed on Craigslist locally, all the ad said was Peavey T-27, good condition...no pictures, just a phone number. When I went to look at it, I was in shock! The guitar and case were covered in dust, but I could tell what was under the dust! After an afternoon of cleaning and detailing, I have a guitar and case that look like they have been in a time capsule for 30 years! As close to new as they come, down to very minor pickguard wear. ZERO buckle rash!!! Case is odor free, neutral, NO smell at all! Neck and frets have no wear (in the pictures the neck looks like it has wear, just reflections) No tarnish on tuners, pickups, bridge, saddles or screws. The sticker on the back of the headstock is from a local music shop that has been here for years. I stopped by yesterday and showed them the guitar, they were amazed at it's condition, they had no records of the guitar being in their shop, but they said they only keep records for about 5 years back.Serial number is 01553858, is there a Peavey decoder for this? Any info on this piece will be appreciated, like I said, I am a newbie to the Peaveys. Thanks!!!

Sweet! And I love the color. Looks like it came from Cecil's Soundpost in Jackson TN. I used to hang out there quite a bit in the 80s. Ran into Carl Perkins there once. What a thrill that was.

Here's one of my Cecil's picks from the 80s.

Almost forgot to help date it. Looks like a 1983 to me.

A copy of the serial number list is in the Peavey guitars article on Wikipedia.

Yes sir, Cecil's is still going strong, the name has been changed to just "Band Stand" now. Carl Perkins was known to frequent that place quite often. One of his T-60's is hanging in one of our local restaurants in Jackson! As far as my find of the T-27, I have given it a thorough checking out, new set up, polished frets, etc...I usually buy and sell on a regular basis, but I think this is a "keeper"! Like I said, this is my first Peavey. The quality of this is amazing!!! Got a feeling it won't be my last Peavey either! Does anyone know what other colors were offered on the T-27?

The last time I was in Jackson I couldn't find it. Has it moved from where it was in the 80s or did I just get lost?

BTW, I'm originally from Paris. Jackson was the closest town with a "real" music store. :D

I have listed this guitar on eBay, NOT cheap though! I am weeding out a few, sold a couple last week and listed a couple this week. I love the buying, finding the bargains, working on them...and then selling! I have put a high reserve on it, not being sure of it's worth. Anyone with suggestions for a fair reserve. Auction is for 10 days...to be honest, I don't really care if I sell it or not, but someone out there may be looking for this exact one. This is the only T-27 I've seen on eBay in awhile...
