Dating my Firenza

Post by greensboro » Mon Sep 10, 2012 8:48 pm

I have a Peavey Firenza with a 10662382 serial number. The Peavey wikipedia article only shows serial numbers up to 0770xxxx (which is dated 1995). My Blue Book of Electric Guitars says the basic Firenza was produced during 1994-2000.

Since the "official" Peavey guitar dating system is out of action right now, I was hoping someone with a similar serial number might know.

Thanks.

The only way to date a Firenza these days is to remove the neck. It should be written on the back of the neck or inside the neck pocket in pencil.

Your Blue Book of Electric Guitars is wrong. There never was a "basic" Firenza. There are 5 kinds. Two were made from 1994 to 1996, these are known as Impact Firenzas and were made in Meridian. Three were made from 1998 to 2002. These later ones were made in Leaksville and thus are known as Leaksville Firenzas. Yours is a Leaksville Firenza. That particular model with the soapbar pickups never had a specific designation, but to help identify it from the other Firenzas, it is often called the "Soapbar Firenza" since it's the only one that came with the soapbar pickups.

FWIW, I have two Soapbar Firenzas sitting right in front of me. One was made in 2000 with a serial number of 10670474, and the other is from 1998, with a serial number of 09800087. Your guitar, with the 1066xxxx, is probably a 2000 or late 1999. Only one way to know for sure. Next time you change strings, take of the neck and get some pics... Inquiring minds besides yours wanna' know! 8)
