Mixer Sugestion?

Post by Mark Oliver » Sun May 26, 2013 5:48 pm

Looking for recommendations to assist with replacing my RQ1606.

I need at least 6 monitor sends and would llike some on board effects. 16 channel minimum. 32 llikely the max. I would prefer phantom power assignable by channel but...

What are you using when you need 4 or 5 monitor mixs and aux fed subs?

the FX series has 6 presends with 5 and 6 being able to be used as either interal effects or monitor mixes. it aslo comes with 4 groups

you would need to go with the fx with 20 sends ( the ex16 has only 12)
however i only have experience with the 1st FX series others can speak more about the new fx2 series

thats what i use at the moment for our live and recording ( useing the lft and right mains) i can get 12 individualized mixes for recording and monitor feeds

The FX mixers only have 4 PRE sends useful for Monitors, the other 2 sends are POST better used for Effects

I hate to say it, but until you go the Crest HP series, there really isn't anything in the Peavey family that offers more than four pre-auxes and still gives you post-auxes for effects use.

My go to when a band needs more auxes has been the Presonus 16.4.2 or 24.4.2. You get all the auxes plus the other digital goodies that come along with it.

Don't believe me. I'm just guessing.

Well I was wondering if was getting close to the time for an update. I really like the simplicity and capability of my RQ1606 but sometimes it would be nice to have built in effects. I just did a show with guitar legend Rik Emmett and had to use my other Yam*** board even thorugh my Peavey is quieter, just to provide the effects. So I can go outboard but that seems to be swimming against the current in the river of digital.

The shortage of aux sends on most modern analogue boards really makes one appreciate just how sophisticated the old school SRC and SRM boards were.
I haven't explored the Crest boards but will investigate. It will be some time before I will drop $3K+ in a Be******* board but I'll investigate Allen & Heath and SoundCraft while waiting.

Thanks

Mark

Hell-o check out the crest x 18 rm. Its a great monitor board imho. works good for an in ear set up. i use all outboard effect gear on monitors as i like to keep them as dry as possible, unless a client just demands it. i split and use a monitor board if i need anything more than 4 aux. i use a hp 8 f.o.h, a rq1606m or the x 18rm on stage. Hope this is food for thought.

I use DiGiCo SD11 which has all the sends and aux you'd need but that might be a bit pricey - over 10k (but worth it for the quality, useability and the great in-built effects)
Ones that I know of in the budget:
I've used Roland M400 a couple of times and found it to be quite good.
The latest digital offerings from A&H and Soundcraft and Midas are all under 10k - They'd all do what you want with features to spare. The good thing about the digital ones is you can download the off-line software for free and try it out on your computer at home (no sound of course but you can check out the features)
I'm a bit reluctant about B*** too but if you have a look on www.proaudiospace.com, there are some people who are loving the X32.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. One item that has captured my interest is the presonus 24.4.2.
It looks like it will do what I need and may be straight forward enough in its operations for me to master and use. And it seems to be proced in the ball park.

Thanks
