Re: Peavey Vypyr 75 = Clean sound?
How to get a clean patch:
To start, power up the amp and set the stompboxes and effects controls to “bypass”. Select one of the amp models (I recommend "Classic" or "Twn") with the amp control. Pressing the amp control will toggle between red (distorted amp model) and green (clean amp model).
Having done this, you will still notice reverb and delay in the sound. This is because the reverb and delay are GLOBAL effects, meaning they affect all models.
To turn off the global reverb and delay, enter edit mode by pressing either the stompboxes or effects control once. You should see the led next to “edit mode” light up. You can now turn the reverb and delay off, by turning the controls labeled “feedback”, “level”, and “level” to zero.
Now, exit the edit mode by pressing the stompboxes or effects encoder again. The edit mode led should go out.
At this point, you have a “dry” no effects patch with the amp model of your choice. If you want this patch to be your “default” patch, which comes up every time you power up the amp, you need to save it to bank A, preset 1. Do this by pressing and holding the preset 1 button until the red led next to it blinks once and comes back on.

I'll humbly recommend using the XXX green model where Roger wrote "...the amp model of your choice". If it works for you, thank Bertotti and e-merlin as they steered me to it. In fact, I was so impressed with it that I snagged the real deal.

My shower at home broke so I decided to use the "clean" setting on my vypyr 30 to get clean. Sat in front of the amp and played for over 30 minutes but cant say I feel much cleaner....
Didnt dare to try "high gain" because the smell woould just become too bad.....
Im at least glad I didnt try to get a "brown" sound.

Re: Peavey Vypyr 75 = Clean sound?
You clearly did not have the amp turned up enough to get the "clean" effect, dont be afraid, to crank it up next time!
Re: Peavey Vypyr 75 = Clean sound?
Actually there is no truly clean channel per say.. just close .. Ive had a vyper 75 and a 30 head.. (identical sound) just no sponge on the lower watt head.... I use a sanpera II (noisy pedal..but I digress) I have also plugged in a rp1000 and you can never get the amp clean enuf to really get the full effect of the rp1000's features.. its always slightly colored. Dont take this wrong the vypyr is still one of the best if not the best modeling amps out there.. just cant dial in a CLEAN clean with it. twin classic or xxx ... doesnt matter
Re: Peavey Vypyr 75 = Clean sound?
try to set the post at about 8-9 and the pre amp at about 1-2 on any Green classic/twin/XXX.
use the master at about 4-5 on your 75w
if its still alittle too dirty for you then try slightly turning down your guitars volume a little.
if you have the pre amp up it will place gain into the amp and create alittle natural distortion.
most presets have the pre up around 5-6 i think

Re: Peavey Vypyr 75 = Clean sound?
For clean tones with my SG, I like using the green setting for B.Kat. I seem to get a fuller sound (and more deep tones) than I do for either Twn or Dlx. Twn does not seem to have much bottom to it for my guitar.
I have some 1970s Dimarzio pick-ups on my Les Paul, so it doesn't matter - I don't get much of a clean tone at all through it.

Re: Peavey Vypyr 75 = Clean sound?
I like Bkat and Twin for clean sounds. As was said, you have to turn down the Pre-gain and use the Post-gain to set the channel volume. Pre-gain will drive most any patch into distortion. Dial in some chorus for a nice rhythm sound. Just a little goes a long way and really makes it interesting.
