Classic 30 + 115e cabinet?

Post by bleakanddivine » Wed Jan 13, 2010 6:31 am

Hi guys, great forum.
Last month I bought my entry into the C30 owners' club, with an ex-demo, but boxed, and probably stock 2009 model. As a current model it shipped with the tube guard and tube retainer as standard, quartet of JJ EL84s, V1 + V2 = JJ ECC83, V3 = Sovtek 12AX7LPS. I've run a drum machine on it for about 30 hrs, so nearly there, then I will get the recommended Tung Sol 12AX7 for V1.

I have a couple of questions:

Is the Tung Sol 12AX7 RI the Russian or USA one?

I've seen a 115e extension cabinet locally, anyone know what the dimensions, weight and original speaker in this are? Is it 16ohm? Are there any photos of one posted in the forums here? Anybody have any views on the 115e compared to the 112e (these seem rare as hens teeth) with the C30?

Thanks
Jonathan

The 115e is approximately 24.5 x 23.5 x 11 inches (h x w x d).

If I can sort out how to weigh it, I'll edit the weight in.

Mine was used and came with a Black Widow in it however, I did get an original Blue Marvel for it. It is the same speaker as in the Delta Blues amp. It's a 15 inch, 16 ohm, Blue Marvel, part # 70777127. Word from my local Peavey Dealer when I got mine (~September 2009) was original replacement speakers were getting scarce.

There's a pic of mine in the link in my sig. It's not high quality and the BW is still in the 115e in that shot. twang_banger has a closer shot in his thread here.

I can't compare it to the 112e for you however, thanks for planting that seed. :)

Peavey Tweed 112e AND Tweed 115e Extension Cabinets......

Gaining "Cult Status" as Collectors Items and Price Climbing.

12" and 15" speakers are manufactured for Peavey by Eminence.

Known as Peavey Blue Marvel / Eminence Classic speakers.

15" usually known for more thump.

112e sought after as exact match in size and cover for tweed C30's.

The 115e was made as the thump extension for C50 410 amp.

Here's a pic of the cab that is for sale here:

Image

It looks a little tatty - hole in speaker clothe, missing 'Peavey' logo. Asking price is UKP200 which seems a bit steep as a couple of good condition 112e's went for around UKP125 each in the last couple of months. I'd like to hang on for a 112e, but are these so rare I shouldn't pass on this one?

That sound like best advice.

Mind you, it might be worth getting this 115e as an investment opportunity, a hedge against any rise in 112e prices in the interim.

Thanks

I am the proud owner and player of a Classic 50 head with both a Peavey 410e and a 115e cabinet. The 115e is original but the 410e is loaded with old Jensens and Eminence "blue" alnico speakers. I am in love with the tone I get from my '75 Gibson S-1 with humbuckers thru the 50 stack! It's deep from the 15 but just enough of that classic 10" sound from the 410e to put the bite in my blues. Even my '97 Strat Plus shimmers and quacks thru this setup like it was 1967! I will never use another rig. You might be able to see it here.

Nice first post, welcome to the forums!

Are you the original owner of the Gibson? Great looking setup, would love to hear it.

Thanks, think I posted once or twice before on here but it was a long time ago.

No, I'm not the original owner - but I'm old enough to be :-( graduated HS that same year. Found the S-1 on consignment at a Prescott, AZ music store and bought it on the spot for $300. It's been modified so much already with the 2 humbuckers and Grover tuners, that it's really not worth much as a collectors item. Besides the Gibson S-1 wasn't exactly a popular or well-known model, what with that bolt-on neck and 3 single-coil Bill Lawrence-designed pups. Someone somewhere along the line replaced two of them with the humbuckers but had the sense to leave one lone single coil. So it has a wide variety of tones from almost Fender-like to Santana smooth distortion with the OD in those Classics. All I did was get it refretted last year and SFGuitarworks did an awesome job by using a low-profile fret wire instead of that jumbo railroad tie stuff most shops use on Gibsons. The refret actually cost more than what I paid for the axe!
