MERIDIAN, MS – Peavey Electronics® and Guitarist/Frontman Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal explore the lost art of keeping a secret by debuting the Joshua Homme Decade™ Too guitar amplifier. Three years ago, in an interview with producer/songwriter Mark Ronson, Homme revealed the secret to his legendary guitar and bass tones heard on his recordings. That secret is the use of a vintage Peavey® Decade guitar practice amplifier. Long out of production, the revelation created a surge in pricing on the used markets and an even greater demand from the public for Peavey to bring the Decade back into production along with an extension cabinet.
Weighing in at just under a solid 12 lbs., delivering 10 watts of pure solid-state power through an 8” speaker, the Joshua Homme Decade Too creates an unbelievable amount of volume, tone, and flexibility. Up front, guitar players will find a single input preamp using the original Decade circuitry with some new enhancements. The GAIN section features PRE and POST controls. PRE GAIN sets the gain of the input circuitry. POST GAIN sets the gain before the power amplifier. Built off the legendary Peavey Saturation patent, the new, footswitchable SATURATION allows tube-like sustain and overload at low level volumes suitable for bedrooms, motel rooms, and apparently, those very expensive recording studios. The typical BASS, MID, and HIGH equalization controls are accompanied by new BASS and TOP enhancement switches added by Homme for further sonic embellishments. The On/Off power switch end caps the front panel for easy access.
It's the rear panel that really sets this new practice amp apart from players previous “my first Peaveys”. A ¼” TRS jack allows for remote switching of both, the SATURATION and effects loop defeat functions. The effects loop provides a buffered signal from the preamp to drive external effects devices and returns before the power amp section. A real transformer balanced XLR out with level control and ground lift is available for direct out recording. A PREAMP OUT jack and phase switch are available for more power and acoustic feedback control. And lastly, when a player just needs to move more air, a pair of paralleled ¼” speaker outs are available to drive the internal speaker and an 8-ohm extension cabinet.
And speaking of extension cabinets, a Peavey Decade Too Extension Cabinet is available as well. The 8” speaker cabinet is housed within a chrome stand for ultimate versatility and portability. The extension cabinet features a tilt swivel design for directional clarity and monitoring, and can be stood separately for better room disbursement, or simply stacked for one very cool looking wall of tone.
