Jimmy Buffett Tour Features SharKart Mobile Music & Videogame Experience

Jimmy Buffett Tour

PEAVEY INT'L. HEADQUARTERS — From coast to coast and in the landlocked oases across America this summer, a land shark awaits the revelers tailgating at Jimmy Buffett's The Year of Still Here concert tour stops.

Musical-instrument and sound-equipment innovator Peavey Electronics partnered with Buffett to create the Margaritaville SharKart, a multimedia experience that travels the parking lots at his concerts to entertain fans before the main attraction takes the stage. On the SharKart, Parrothead fans can express their inner rock stars on virtual guitars and vocals through videogame versions of classic hits 'Margaritaville,' 'Volcano' and 'Cheeseburger in Paradise.'
Designed by Peavey Electronics founder and CEO Hartley Peavey and built in the company's award-winning custom shop, the SharKart features a 42 JVC HDTV, a PlayStation 3 videogame system, a custom-designed Peavey sound system with microphone and a pair of Peavey SharKontroller videogame controllers crafted in the motif of Buffett's LandShark Lager. And the vehicle itself is modeled to resemble—you guessed it—a shark that can swim on the land.
Jimmy and I share many diverse mutual interests, from music all the way to sailing, and we drew from those common interests to inspire this project, said Hartley Peavey, who also shares his home state of Mississippi with Buffett. I hope that all of the Jimmy Buffett fans have as much fun jamming on the SharKart as we did bringing it to life!
The SharKart showcases the Peavey SharKontroller videogame controller, a real-wood, life-size Peavey guitar modified for play with guitar-based music videogames. Once the Parrotheads are done showing off their virtual rockin' skills, they can surf to www.peaveycustomshop.com and design a one-of-a-kind controller that is compatible with Guitar Hero and the PlayStation format.
The Peavey guitar videogame controllers debuted in January at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show and the 2008 NAMM trade show, landing everywhere from gaming and music fanatics' blogs to best-of lists such as ESPN's Easy Points: The Best of CES, and coverage from news organizations CNN, CNBC, Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, Stuff, Wired, G4 and Spike TV.
