Music Retailers Recognize Peavey for Hurricane Relief

Music-product retailers from across North America recognized Peavey's Hurricane Katrina relief efforts with the first-ever Music Sound Award for Outstanding Community Service.
Hurricane Katrina affected millions of people, including many of us in Meridian, Mississippi, said company president Mary Peavey during the January 19 awards ceremony. As a 40-year Mississippi institution, we were eager to help with our region's recovery. Thanks to our dedicated sales staff and retailers, our Cable Cash Hurricane Relief program has made a difference for victims of this historic storm.
Through the Cable Cash program, Peavey donated revenues from its PV Series musical instrument and microphone cable sales to the Red Cross for hurricane relief. Peavey also auctioned a special Peavey Jack Daniel's guitar autographed by country-music icon and Peavey endorser Hank Williams Jr. The one-of-a-kind instrument fetched an additional $2,550 for the Red Cross.
Peavey also supports community service programs that aid in the betterment of children, such as TilMomGetsHome.org, a web interface that connects parents with afterschool programs for children and teenagers. In October 2005, the company hosted Meridian's first-ever Lights On Afterschool rally-one of 7,000 such events across the nation-to emphasize the importance of after-school programs. Hartley and Mary Peavey are also advocates for education and job-skills training.
Testa Publications, publisher of Music Sound Retailer and other audio trade magazines, produces the Music Sound Awards during the Winter NAMM (International Music Products Association) convention in Anaheim, Calif. Musical instrument and sound reinforcement retailers in the U.S. and Canada vote on the annual Music Sound Awards.
