Rockstar Mayhem Tour Showcases Versarray 212 Sound System

PEAVEY INTL. HEADQUARTERS This summers Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Tour, headlined by Slipknot and Disturbed, served as the proving ground for the new ribbon-loaded Versarray 212 line-array sound system from audio innovators Peavey Electronics.
As the exclusive sound system of the Jgermeister Mobile Stagea custom-built, traveling foldout stage housed in a 44-foot trailerthe Peavey Versarray 212 provided articulate sound reinforcement while metal heavyweights Machine Head, Walls of Jericho, Five Finger Death Punch, Airbourne and more steamrolled concert audiences during the festivals 30-date run.
When we debuted the stage in 2007 with the original Peavey Versarray 112 system, it performed exceptionally well in every situation we could throw at it, said Dave Summers, Road and Production Manager for the Jgermeister Mobile Stage.
The new VR212 is another leap forward in sound reinforcement technology, he added. With this system, Peavey transducer engineers developed a line array that positions 16 loudspeaker components in a compact enclosure while delivering the highest levels of performance. Its the ideal system for modern touring situations, where performance and efficiency are matters of necessity.
The Jgermeister Mobile Stage features twin arrays of eight Versarray 212 enclosures per side plus sixteen thundering Versarray 218 subwoofers. Each VR212 enclosure is outfitted with two 12 Black Widow woofers, four planar ribbon drivers and ten midrange drivers. The proprietary ribbon drivers are mounted to a manifold line source that work with the specially designed midrange drivers to create a high-energy field that enables critically damped operation with immediate transient response. All 16 line-array components utilize neodymium magnets that yield lighter weight and greater efficiency over traditional magnet designs.
The Versarray line-array system is managed by Peavey Architectural Acoustics Digitool processors and powered by twenty-four Crest Audio Pro 9200 amplifiers and six Pro 8200 amps. A combination of six Crest Audio Pro 9200, four Pro 8200 and four Pro 7200 amps provide power for the stages Peavey QW monitor rig.
Peaveys patent-pending Ram Air Cooling design, a dissipation process that radiates heat away from the voice coil and speaker cone on the VR212, helps achieve enhanced efficiency and power handling, and overall improved performance over conventional cone-type transducers. The VR218 subwoofer features the patented UniVent venting system, which uses an exclusive process to literally pump air through the enclosure, maintaining cool operating temperatures, increasing reliability and reducing power compression under heavy continuous-drive conditions.
The Versarray line array system is truly amazing, said Rick Zeiler, Director of Marketing and Brand Development at Jgermeister. Producing a heavy rock concert can be difficult because there is so much going on in the music, but the Versarray solves that through incredible sonic articulation, consistency and a fully dynamic listening experience.
The inaugural Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Tour also featured Peavey-endorsing artists DragonForce, Black Tide and The Red Chord.
