Peavey IPR 1600 Wins 'Best New Power Amp' in Music & Sound Awards

PEAVEY INT'L. HEADQUARTERS — The revolutionary ultra-lightweight and efficient Peavey IPR 1600 power amplifier won the Best New Power Amp Award from music-products retailers in the 24th annual Music Sound Awards, presented by the Music Sound Retailer.

"We're honored to receive this recognition from our dealers," said Hartley Peavey, founder and CEO of Peavey Electronics Corporation. "The IPR power amplifier is a very significant development in professional audio technology. We broke the $1-per-watt barrier more than three decades ago with our CS 800, and the IPR 1600 eclipses that record by providing 1,600 watts of power, incredible efficiency and huge weight savings at just 18 cents per watt."

The groundbreaking Peavey IPR 1600 utilizes an advanced design that dramatically reduces weight while increasing reliability, thermal efficiency and output power. IPR Series amplifiers are designed with a resonant switch-mode power supply and a high-speed class D topology that yields the highest audio fidelity, resolution and efficiency available.

The Peavey IPR 1600 may also be the first truly green power amplifier, averaging just 2 amperes of current consumption during normal 8-ohm operation with a net weight of 7 lbs., which enables users to conserve energy during transportation, operation, and even cooling.

"We've only started implementing our revolutionary IPR technology," added Peavey. "Due to its efficiency and lightweight, we can pair this technology with our loudspeakers and drivers to give consumers unprecedented power, light weight and reliability in powered enclosures. The new Peavey Impulse 12D powered loudspeaker, for example, produces up to 1,200 watts of IPR power in a 26 lb. enclosure with a true ribbon driver and 12" woofer. The possibilities are very exciting."

The IPR Series from Peavey also includes the IPR 3000, IPR 4500 and IPR 6000 models, as well as DSP-equipped versions of each model that feature 32-bit, floating-point digital signal processing with EQ presets that make common sound-reinforcement adjustments easy to perform. The revolutionary Peavey IPR Series DSP power amplifiers are the first to integrate Waves technology, including MaxxBass, which uses psycho-acoustics to create precise harmonic overtones that give the perceived effect of adding low frequencies to the mix.

Peavey debuted the Impulse 12D and EU Series powered enclosures, which feature IPR amplifier technology, at the Winter NAMM 2010 convention, held January 14-17 in Anaheim, Calif.
