Peavey Electronics Proudly Supports Mississippi Arts During Mississippi Governor's Arts Awards

Peavey Electronics is proud to announce its participation at the 27th annual celebration of the Governors Arts Awards, hosted by the Mississippi Arts Commission (MAC) at Belhaven University Center for the Arts on Thur., Feb.19, at 6:00 p.m.

This inspiring event spotlights Mississippis outstanding cultural resources and honors those who contribute to the state through their vision and creativity. The awards are presented to individuals and organizations for exceptional work in visual, literary, and performing arts, community development through the arts, and arts patronage.

Mary Peavey, President of Peavey Electronics, longtime MAC board member and a former Texas Arts in Community award recipient, applauds Governor Phil Bryant for his ongoing support of the arts.

Governor Bryant is a strong ally to arts in Mississippi, shared Peavey. He and our First Lady, Deborah Bryant, understand the importance of the arts in our schools across Mississippi. One of the most important accomplishments of the arts commission has been its Whole Schools initiative, which is a statewide comprehensive arts education program. Children are truly inspired by our educators who are bringing arts into the classroom.

Peavey further stated, Mississippi is famed worldwide for its artists, writers, poets, musicians, and soon in 2015 the citizens of Cleveland, Mississippi will complete the GRAMMY museum there, the only official GRAMMY museum location outside Los Angeles. The arts are becoming more of a focus, but they have always been strong and enduring in our Mississippi culture. This year's Arts in Community award will go to Mississippi State University's Riley Center here in Meridian. I wish all those on that original committee to revitalize (or really, rebirth) the Grand Opera House could accept this award along with its exceptional director, Dennis Sankovich.

We celebrate the Riley Center and anticipate the soon-to-be-completed beautiful Arts and Entertainment center, which will also be located here in Meridian!

The five gifted recipients for the 2015 Governor's Arts Awards are the Lane Chapel Quintet from Tupelo, Excellence in Music; Chesney Blankenstein Doyle from Natchez, Excellence in Media Arts; Maude Schuyler Clay from Sumner, Excellence in Visual Arts; Mississippi State University Riley Center for Education Performing Arts in Meridian, Arts in Community; and Craig Wiseman from Hattiesburg, Excellence in Music.
