Mississippi STEM Camp Students Visit Peavey Electronics

Students from Lamar School's STEM camp visited Peavey Electronics in Meridian, Mississippi on Friday. The students toured the company's facilities, viewed demonstrations by company engineers, and attended a presentation by Peavey Founder and CEO Hartley Peavey.

Lamar School's STEM camp is a week-long summer camp for 3rd through 8th graders that focuses on science, technology, engineering and math. The field trip to Peavey headquarters allowed students to see how those disciplines are being used by a company in their own hometown to create products that rock and move audiences around the world.

The students were taken on a tour of the company by Peavey General Manager of Product Development Fred Poole. Peavey engineers then demonstrated innovative products like the PV AT Series mixers, which feature Antares Auto-Tune technology that can literally help anyone sing in key, and the Peavey Composite Acoustics carbon fiber guitars, a line of instruments totally built from composite materials.

The visit concluded with a talk by Hartley Peavey, who described how, despite wanting to be a rock star while growing up in Meridian, he achieved success after realizing that his talent was in building things. Peavey explained that everyone has a gift, and those people who learn what their talents are and follow them are the ones who are truly happy. He closed by telling the students, Look in the mirror and ask yourself what you really enjoy doing. It might be that therein lies the path to your talents!
