Peavey Presents AhhYeah Amplify 2018 DJ Championship

Calling all DJs, turntablists, controllerists and party rockers in the Northeast: Peavey Electronics proudly presents the inaugural AhhYeah Amplify 2018 DJ Championship. As both title sponsor and equipment provider, Peavey will host the top artists on the East Coast as they battle for a coveted spot in the final, which will take place later this year.

In 2016 NYC- and NJ-based DJ collective Ahhyeah began a weekly event to give local DJs an outlet for creativity. Every Wednesday in Jersey City, nine DJs would battle it out for the chance to return at the end of the month. This event became known as Weekday Warriors and as it grew in popularity, competition increased as did the complexity of the DJ sets. Now, just two years later, the event has evolved into Amplify with a sponsor and pro-audio partner in Peavey, one of the world's largest suppliers of professional sound equipment.

From now until March 18, East Coast DJs can submit their two- to five-minute performance video along with a $15 registration fee through the AhhYeah website at www.ahhyeah.co/amplify . They should then share their video on social media because part of their crowd reaction score will be based on the number of likes they receive. On March 26, the top 9 qualifiers from each region will be announced and will advance to battles taking place April through July in New York City, New Jersey and Philadelphia. Two winners will be chosen from each competition and will advance to the finals taking place in September in New Jersey.

DJs selected for battle will be given 10 minutes to wow the crowd and show the judges why they deserve to be the 2018 Amplify Champion. They will be judged on four criteria: crowd reaction, technical ability, originality and track selection. In the spirit of the original event, variety is to be expected as DJs take audiences on a musical journey that crosses genres and decades.

To battle, DJs need only bring the basicslaptop, needles, headphones, any other midi control, and of course, their skills. They'll attempt to spin their best set on provided equipment, including Technics 1200 turntables, a battle mixer, and Peavey's latest pro-audio innovations, including top-line speakers and subwoofers from their RBN and Dark Matter series.

The 1,500 Watt RBN 112 speaker enclosures are top quality, ultra-reliable loudspeakers. Unique to these speakers is Peavey's proprietary 120mm true ribbon high frequency driver on a low-coloration wave-guide. Used in studio environments for decades, Peavey has developed a method for applying this high-quality sound technology to live applications. The result is crystal-clear audio that no other traditional compression driver can rival. To match the incredible high-frequency performance of Peavey's ribbon driver, these enclosures are equipped with 12 dual-voice coil neodymium Scorpion speakers which feature Peavey's exclusive field replaceable basket technology. Features include program EQ presets, side and top handles, multiple side and top fly points, and an ultra-braced molded enclosure. The RBN 112 is 24 tall, 14.07 wide, 14.07 deep and weighs 39 pounds.

The RBN 215 powered subwoofers are at the very forefront of subwoofer technology. Maintaining full output down to 36Hz with 2,000 Watts total peak power and constructed of heavily braced 18mm birch plywood, the RBN subs are designed for years of rock solid low end reliability. Features include dual 15 woofers, assignable crossover, heavy-duty locking casters, ultra-braced cabinet assembly, ground lift, pole mount, and a heavy-duty steel perforated grille. In use position, the RBN 215 is 32.88 tall, 22.07 wide, 24.75 deep and weighs 125 pounds.

In last year's Weekend Warriors competition, winner DJ Unkle Chip took home a pair of Peavey Dark Matter DM 112 speakers, which recently received a Product Excellence Award from Music Inc. Magazine. The ultra-reliable Dark Matter series enclosures are built tough with steel grilles and rugged injection molded cabinets. Their convenient design allows for use as floor monitors or pole-mounted speakers. Perfect for DJ's, bands and other musical applications, the Dark Matter enclosures produce best-in-class crystal-clear, professional audio. The Dark Matter LCD display and associated selector knob allow users to choose various parameters of operation for the DSP-based EQ. This includes bass and treble control access, as well as multiple EQ presets for various applications or speaker positions/locations. These presets provide users with a highly flexible method of configuring and optimizing the powered speaker system for a specific use with minimal time and effort. This year, the 2018 Amplify Champion will receive a to-be-determined prize pack valued at more than $3,000.

Details for the New York City battle have already been announced. Taking place Sunday, April 22 at 6 p.m. at the Bowery Electric, the battle will be judged by DJs Mell Starr, Latin Prince, Eddie B Swift and more. Tickets are available now through the AhhYeah website. Details for the NJ and Philly battles will be announced at a later date.
