Peepaw,
Good day and welcome.
I am not sure what a PV-5300 is...
Please list everything in your system by article and designator; i.e.
Speakers: PV-12
Mixer: PV-8
Amp: PV-1200
etc.

We'll get it sorted.

Happy Independence Day.

You are not old enough to be my grandfather.

You need to understand signal flow first. Gop here:
http://www.peavey.com/support/technotes ... alflow.pdf

Some tips;

Is the microphone wired or wireless? Is it plugged into a channel of the mixer section? Does the mic have a switch on it? There are two main controls that effect output. The channel level (volume) control and the master level control.

Generally the Master level should be higher than the channel.

Read the Tech Note and give it anothber try. Report back . . .

I had a look at one online.
It doesnt look like there's too much you can mess up there.
Is your master volume up?
Is your mute buttom off?
is the channel volume up on the mic channel you are using?
Have you got all the EQ sliders at about the middle?
That's about it!
Theres not even and amp configuration switches to get wrong. You say you are geting a swooshing sound so you probably have your speaker connected OK
(You have got the speakers connected to the speaker connections on the back and NOT the MAIN OUT on the front havent you?)
