Vypyr 100 vs. Bandit 112

What should I get?

I'm interested in the many different sounds the Vypyr has to offer but how's the gain? I play metal and my current amp no longer works and so i'm looking for a new peavey amp because I'm very familiar with their work. I could get the bandit and bit by bit buy pedals but only if you guys recomend it over the vypyr. Again I'm looking for something with quality gain. I know they both have what I'm looking for but which is better in that aspect?

Basically what i'm asking is: Regular amp vs. Modeling amp?(thats not really a question but you get the point)

Let me know guys.

Thanks.

Vypyr, the swiss army knife of amps. More power, all the effects, 2 12" speakers vs 1, etc...
I am concerned that Cincy and I are in agreement on an amp. LOL.
Is this a trick question?

Seeing that you're wanting effects and what not the Vypyr would be the way to go.

Sounds like a Vypyr is in your future.

Vypyr.

I don't have to use high gain tones when I gig anymore but the Vypyr's settings are really good--better than the Vox Valvtronix ST floorboard I used in the past. And Vypyrs take pedals well.

Vypyr has enough gain and tones for ANY style of metal. From early thrash to modern djent. You can dial in any sound you need. The effects are useable too. very nice. You will probably eventually need to drop an extra $100-$200 for either a sanpera I or II footswitch if you plan on gigging or doing serious jamming. I use the sanpera I because I don't need more than 4 easily accessible presets.

I hate to be the lone voice here, but I would seriously look at the Bandit. I don't have one but remember playing through one a few years ago. It sounded really good to me.

To counter that I have played though a number of modeling amps at music stores over the years; I do not own one. I have always left a bit disappointed. I think my favorite was the tube Vypyr version, but I don't remember being completely wow-ed by it.

Just my two cents. And no I don't want the change back.

I have a bunch of different Peavey amps, including the Vypyr 75. If youa re looking for effects, the Vypyr, as stated above, is the way to go. The Bandit is pretty much a one-trick pony compared to the modeling attributes of the Vypyr... and the Vypyr can get really loud, too.

I like it and it even has a good clean sound if I want it.

I was right where you are. Tried a Vypyr & loved the sounds--Classic 30 w/Tubescreamer simulator nailed the Life in the Fast Lane tone to a TEE. The ability to switch from that creamy 70's sound to a Diezel sound was awesome.

But I couldn't rationalize ponying up over two bills for the Sanpera II to unlock everything.

I took advantage of a satisfaction guarantee, took the Vypyr back, and picked up a used 'teal stripe' Bandit 112 and a Line 6 Floor Pod Plus. I get the raw power of the Bandit plus the 'footswitchability' of the FPP.

The Vypyrs, as cool as they are, are made 'over there' and haven't had a chance to stand the test of time like the 90's Made in the USA Solo Series.

Either way will lead to awesomeness.

I have a Studio Pro red stripe, and I vote for the Bandit. Current Transtube sounds incredibly good; I AB'd a Bandit against a big store full of amps, only thing better was the low end envelope on a Fender Blues Deluxe (bigger, heavier, much costlier). It is VERY sturdy. (Vypyr is now reliable but nothing is more reliable than a Bandit.) New it's cheap, used they cost, like, nothing. So OK, you won't resell for a profit. So what? If you want more effects, put something in front of it -- line 6, Zoom, Vox. I run a Tech 21 Blonde or a Zoom G2 into mine, sounds great. Plays at gig volumes.
UNLESS... you are in a cover band and/or play a LOT of different genres. Then you will be SO glad to have a modeling amp. But will you really need 100 watts and 2X12? Heavy. 75 won't do?
