Peavey Classic 30 Low Voltage Fuse

Post by harv1944 » Sat Jun 24, 2017 2:30 pm

Can anyone explain why the 36V fuse on a Classic 30 is rated at 10A. 4 x el84 in series is say 800ma, 3 x 12ax7 in series is 150ma.A short circuit dissipation of 300W before the fuse blows seems excessive.

Well, the AC it fuses is only 24-25vAC, so 250 watts, but...

It won't be for a steady overload, it will be for a hard blow. There is a lot of surge for those cold heaters at power up. I'd guess they decided a fast 10A would blow quicker than a slow blow 3A.
