Peavey Yellow & Blue Speaker Wire Color

Post by aoresteen » Mon Jun 26, 2017 11:10 am

I'm just curious. Why did Peavey choose yellow for positive, blue negative for their speaker wires? Why didn't they use the industry standard of RED & BLACK? There must have been a good reason.

Who knows? In two way speakers, the yellow/blue pair is the woofer, and they do use black and red for the horn.

In general, red and black in wiring is more commonly power wires, like on a 9v battery clip. For speakers, I see more black and white - like most fender amps. On tube amp output transformers, black is often common, but red would be unusual there.

Yellow= sunny, positive. Blue= Blues, negative. It's a music thing.
As a group, us guitar players may not be that smart, but we can remember the difference between a sunny day and the blues.

dalrymple, that was just beautiful :D
Honestly, that has never entered mind. I just assumed, the Sun was hot

aoresteen, the old SC 212s and CC 212s did have one speaker Blk and Red, and the other Blk and Ylw, FWIW.

Next question, why is black hot in AC, but negative in DC

Why are the notes of the scale A-G instead of Greek letters?

Electrical wiring and electronics are two different worlds.

In ac wiring the hot wire can be black, red or blue in 110 volt schemes. In 277 volt schemes it can be brown, orange or yellow.

Just FWIW.
