Early 90`s Classic 30
Early 90`s Classic 30
I bought a early 90`s Classic 30 from a friend. I`ve always been a Fender Blackface Amp guy but a friend let me try out this Classic 30 and I love it. The question I have is that when I turn the amp off there is a loud pop. I know it`s a class A amp and I`m not used to that but is this normal or is there something wrong with the amp. And this is at a low volume. Thank Keith

It is normal.
On mine, if I depress the boost button on top of the amp (back to clean), the amp does not do it.

Most likely cause of a turn off pop is a little spark inside the power switch. MANY MANY amps pop when you turn them off.
Why do you think this amp runs in Class A?

Re: Early 90`s Classic 30
On any amp with tubes going through an output transformer, there's always some small imbalance between the tubes, the transformer, and the phase of the moon etc that means that when you turn it off, and the fields collapse, one side has a tiny bit more "oomph" than the other, and you get a pop.
No biggie, don't sweat it. Love the old black or tweed C30s from the 90s. Rock it out man!

I see it`s a class AB. I thought it was a class A because there is no standby switch.Enzo wrote:Most likely cause of a turn off pop is a little spark inside the power switch. MANY MANY amps pop when you turn them off.

STandby switch has nothing to do with class. AMps this small really do not need standby switches.
If this amp were running class A< it would be WAY hotter in the back. I mean heat radiating.

I`ve had smaller amps with no standby switch (I should of remembered that) Thanks EnzoEnzo wrote:STandby switch has nothing to do with class. AMps this small really do not need standby switches.
