6505 Strange volume problem

Post by SBN » Thu Aug 17, 2017 6:46 pm

Hi

I've been having this strange volume problem with my 6505 head. Even when the post gain/pre gain are at 0 (both channels), it sound just as if my post gain was at 3-4. the trouble goes on and off if i gently tap the head or if I unplug/plug jacks in fx loop or input (bothnormal and high gain). The power tubes glow normally and the preamp tubes don't cause the problem if I touch them.

When i turn up the pre gain i get this loud pop then the volume goes back to normal. If i turn the post gain up to 3 when the problem happens it seems to actually reduce the volume... I don't get it.

Does anybody know what could cause this?

BTW I opened it up and the problem happens 100% when i touch around the main pcb with all the knobs. seems like the volume goes through without going through the post gain knobs.

I've got a gig this saturday so... kind of in a hurry... Even if i know it probably won't be fixed by then...
