Special 212s are kinda like a Double Bandit, with a deluxe LED foot switch

And does anyone know where to get replacement knobs for these? Ive found some that are similar, but wouldnt look as good on the amp. Mine has all the knobs, its just that a couple of them have the black scratched up a bit.

The guy working on my amp text me lastnight and said he found the problem.

"The high input jack lost its spring tension on one of the contacts. If you look at the front metal tab, its resting on its contact. The rear tab has an air gap and does not make contact when its unplugged. When a jack is inserted, the tip does not make good contact with the spring tab."

I asked if that is the problem, and he said it most certainly is. I asked if thats what caused the loud buzz / hum I heard, and the very low volume / output. He replied -

"Yes, because it wasnt providing good signal ground. That tab is your high input signal path, and its your low input ground path. So as is, the symptoms make sense. I also cleaned all jacks. They had 7 ohms resistance, after cleaning, they had .2 ohms resistance. Looked to be heavy nicotine film".

He said the amp will be good as new when he's finished. So how does all that sound to you guys? And the nicotine came from the previous owner, not me.

Glad to hear you got to sorted out.
Peavey amps are brutally durable, and usually just need a good flush with some D-5.

I think you need to make sure people know this guy's name once he's fixed your amp, as he sounds like s decent fellow who knows what he's doing.

Congrats on getting someone who knew how to fix it to look at it. Special 212s are great amps.

The nicotine came from playing the amp in smokey bars.

Oh man, we had some close calls, but everybody ended up fine and I got my amp back.

So on Wednesday night, I ended up coming down with a bad cold. On Thursday, the guy lets me know that the amp is finished, and that I could come pick it up anytime. I tell him Ill pick it up over the weekend since I was not well.

So Friday afternoon, a big fire breaks out by his house, and everyone in his area had to be evacuated! I was like "Oh sh!t. My amp! His house!! How horrible!!!". Luckily they got it under control and the evacuation was lifted the next day, so I picked it up on Saturday.

This thing sounds fantastic. I totally forgot how good it sounds. So good in fact, in my opinion, that Ill probably buy the next silver stripe I see online. I have no idea how these arent legendary amps. This is me today playing straight through the amp, zero effects.

But yeah, this guy came through HUGE for me. If youre on the Central Coast of California, give this guy a call if youre in need.
