Peavey Series 260 = 1970's

Post by ColoradoRobert » Thu Sep 21, 2017 9:31 am

I have a chance to try an save an old Series 260 amp head. One just sold on ebay for only 41 dollars so there is very little upside to resell and save this relic. MY problem? Trying to find (for free) the schematic for it. Saw one on-line but the date was from the 90's and the components I doubt match this mid-70's model. Any help to an early schematic would be greatly appreciated. Every dollar counts on this given it has no knobs and the pots are all plastic stemmed and may need replacing also.

So call customer service at Peavey. They will send you any schematic for any Peavey amp...for free.

Also series 260 is not specific. What does it say on the front of the amp? Is there a name like Century or Standard, or whatever? And look on the rear panel. Does it just say 260, or maybe 260C or 260H or whatever?

Thank you Enzo, I will try an find a number for them and make the request. Somebody lead me to believe it cost and the upside on this is going to be very very narrow. The person who has it says it is a Standard Series 260 (just the head). I think I looked at the 260H but the schematic said 90's and his is like the one sold on ebay and it is from the mid-late 70's.

Standard is the name of the model. 260H is a power amp circuit.

GO to www.peavey.com and look under support. You will find phone numbers, addresses and whatever else.

Plastic shaft does not mean the pot is bad, the actual resistive part is the same regardless of what the shaft it made from.

The Standard was a guitar head, they also made a Standard PA head, which is different.

The original Standard had transistors in the preamp, no ICs. It came in A and B versions. The 130 watt amp circuit could be called a 260. There was also a later Standard MK III which had ICs in the preamp, and a 260D power amp.
