Peavey Tripple x tubes

Post by whelo1985 » Sat Sep 23, 2017 10:45 am

Hi Guys,

I bought a Peavey Tripple x back in 2008. It's currently holding three 12AX7 preamp tubes, four 6L6GC power amp tubes driven by a 12AX7, power amp convertible to use four EL34 tubes (TBH I have no idea what any of this means!!). I'm looking to upgrade the tubes but I'm not 100% sure about what to get. I'm looking at swopping the 12AX7 preamp tubes for JJ NN003 Tube ECC83S and swopping the 6L6GC for TAD JJ EL34 Quartett Matched Tubes. I'm just looking to double check this combo will work before buying and if anyone here has tried it? Ideally I am after a clearer sound that will eliminate that fuzzy sound you get when using alot of gain.

Thanks in advance

If you want clearer sound you don't want EL-34's.

JJ pre amps are a bit dark imo so you may wanna try something else like rubys etc....
As for power tubes i run KT 77’s or 6CA7’s as there in the EL34 family with the mids but have a deeper bottom end like a 6L6. The problem with this and other amps that are switchable on the power tube families is that you can spend alot of time swapping this and that and less time practicing 😁
