Classic 50 410 - 8 or 16 ohms

Post by PBO Blues » Tue Sep 26, 2017 10:18 am

Recently stumbled onto a '91 Classic 50 410, snapped it up, and love it. Noticed that the internal speakers (feel certain that they're the original Eminence "Blue Marvels") were jacked into the 8 ohm output. Did a little digging and have seen the topic danced around here in the forum but would like the definitive answer. What I've gleaned is:

The "standard" setup is for the internals to be run from the 16 ohm output.
Plugging into the 8 ohm is acceptable and takes some of the "bite" out of the tone.
No damage is being done running out of the 8. The 50 adjusts appropriately.
Use to taste.

Have I got this right?

(Looking straight at you, Classic30inCincy. You've been a wonderful source of info here.)

Thanks for allowing me to plow old ground. I appreciate it.

Thank you, sir. I knew I could count on you.

And yes, I'd LOVE to score a 115e. Will look into the Avatars you suggest.

And for clarity, when I DO get that 115 extension cab, it should be 16 ohm and plugged into the 8 ohm jack. The internals go back into the 16. Correct?

Well, I guess it really doesn't matter which goes where. And it probably makes more sense to leave the internals in the 8 making adding/removing the extension cabinet a one-plug operation. I really do like that 8 ohm majic mojo.

Thanks again.
