Can't tune G string

Post by alanwaston » Tue Feb 07, 2017 2:54 am

Hello!

I'm looking for some serious help to repair my bass guitar.
I can't seem to tune the G string any higher.
The tone will get higher at first but then a loud snap is heard and it goes back to what it was.
My G is extremely out of tune which makes it impossible to play at the moment.

Any suggestions are appreciated, but please go easy on me with the guitar language :p

Almost certainly a stripped gear in the tuner. While replacing it is the only real, permanent solution, tuner gears are usually only stripped on one of their two faces. At rehearsal one night, I had a tuner gear strip, so I wrapped the string around in the other direction and tuned it up. I wouldn't do it long-term, but it works as a quick McGyver fix in a pinch.
