The first two are both KB300s, difference is the speaker. The Scorpion is the premium speaker, and the Black Widow is the super-premium speaker. KB300 came out in 1983, but the two in your photos are the updated version that came out in 1989. It has an XLR input on channel 1.

The KB/A300 is just a much more recent version of the amp. It is not the same, of course, but is functionally equivalent.

You can download the owner manuals for both amps from the Peavey main web site. Look under support, then manuals, then archived, then K, and scroll down to your models.

Are both available to you now? Are they both at similar price or is there a substantial difference in price? I have no reason to prefer one over the other really. The newer model could be in worse shape than an old one. Both have similar features and ratings.

Hello!
I was just given a KB 300 today (to use as a temporary practice bass amp until I can afford to get one of my own) but it is different from all of the ones pictured here. It has no mic channel and each of the three input channels have concentric knobs to adjust EQ (no faders like the KB/A300). It does not have a label to tell me if it's a Black Widow or Scorpion speaker so I'm wondering what type of speaker it has. It does not have the thin vertical side stripes on the grille, they are the wide stripes (about 1-1/2 inches wide) the label under the control knobs isn't blue and the font style of the lettering is more like the KB/A300 (pictured above). Wondering when this model was produced? It's in terrific shape, very clean and it works perfectly for my bass practice needs.

Thanks!

I also very recently acquired a Peavey KB 300 amp with the Black Widow speaker with the XLR input, but can'-t seem to find a schematic for it. Any & all help would be most appreciated. Thank You in advance.

Hi there, I have just purchased a Peavey KB 300 and wanted to know how i can tell which speaker model it is, without having to open up the back?

With the serial number, am i able to determine the year, and speaker inside? And any other pertinent information?

This is my first posting in this forum...how do you post pics? I can't see how / where to attach any photos.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!!

Anyone know how to post pics from my computer?

I read the FAQ's, and have searched for some admins to contact to allow permission, but it won't even let me send them a message.

Why is this forum so anti-user friendly?

Seems more difficult than necessary.

Can anyone please help?

Thanks.

Your first few posts will be moderated, because when we didn't, every morning the forum would be packed full of spam ads for various things. Once they decide you are an actual new member rather than a internet spam bot, you will be free to post.

You can see your speaker through the grille cloth. Look at the photos in the thread. The Scorpion has a wide bright brushed cast aluminum edge and the top, bottom, and sides are squared off, so the shape reminds of a stop sign.

The Black Widow has a cast frame but is round - no stop sign look.

And I am no expert, but I was pretty sure some of them just used a common stamped basket speaker. But by looking in through the grille you ought to be able to determine which speaker you have.

Hi, well i can assure you that I'm a real person.

It would be alot easier to just simply post the pics that i have of this amp.

What else do you need from me, to prove that i'm a real person, before you enable me the ability to post these pics of my amp?

Note - just realized that my permission to post pics has been granted. Thank you.

Below are the pics that I have. I'd love to know what you can tell me about this amp.

Many thanks!

Hell-; right away you can see a replaced grill cloth. looks like a scorpion . heavey as all get out - but you probally know that by now. I personally would want to meter the drivers and give it a good check out before i laid out cash. To me and thats just to me a replaced grill cloth with most everthing looking oem is like a replaced fender on a 66 chevelle. Makes me wonder!!!

Hi there, i'm sorry i'm quite new to this amp and don't know the differences of grill cloths that you are mentioning.

Are you suggesting that my amp does not have it's original grill cloth?

Just from looking at the pics that I have posted, is there anything else I should be aware of??

Many thanks!!

It looks as though someone has replaced the original grille cloth. That doesn't mean much. The original cloth may have gotten damaged. The original aluminum strips would have had to be removed to change the cloth, so they may have decided either that it looked better, or that it was too much trouble. The only possible added damage could have been the speaker cone, but if the cone was damaged, you'd hear the results. if it sounds OK, then it IS OK.

The amp looks like an amp. Obviously the amp has signs of use: dirt, little wear on the tolex, paint worn off corners, that sort of thing.
