Peavey S-3 Project

Post by ManMtMike » Sat May 06, 2017 12:46 pm

Just got an S-3 that is really screwed up. Random holes, random replacement pups, broken nut - just a mess. But the bones - body and neck - are still overall just fine. And I only paid $225 for it.

Question: Could I buy a set of Fender Nashville Tele pickups and pots and just swap those in? Would they fit? Here's the link if anyone is inclined to check it out:

Thanks!

usually no. the bridge pickup and pots and all will work, but the middle and neck pickups have a rout for peavey's straight single coils. If you look at most strat and tele pickups, the bottom bobbin is rectangular shaped and unless the body has been routed for standard strat pickups, the replacements wont fit.

Totally agree with Twangboy - Strat singles won't fit the routes on the Genny S3. I replaced the middle and neck pickups on my old S3 with Bill Lawrence L280's. Perfect fit......

Great guitars - lightweight and resonant!

lipstick pickups will usually fit the routes as well as single coil sized humbuckers.

carvin singles, EMGs, Lawrence, those fit fine. My Falcon standard has Carvin TBH60s. sounds killer!

I think there are a number of the SD specialty noiseless strat pickups with parallel sides that may fit, such as the SVR-1, duckbucker, L'il '59, etc.
I really like the SVR-1.
