Foundation 5 Fret Wire

Post by Rayzorxbass » Thu Feb 23, 2017 12:33 pm

Hi All,

My Foundation 5 has some wear on the first 7 frets. Give that the bass is 27 years old, this is to be expected.
I'm considering doing a re-fret of entire neck. I've only fretted and re-fretted guitars, so I wanted some input on fret wire choice.
The Peavey manual states:
"the 21 frets are 18% nickel-silver which are medium height, highly crowned and polished".

I'm looking at the Stew-Mac Medium fret wire, and they have 4 versions (see chart)
Do any of you techies out there have any experience with re-fretting these basses, and which Medium fret wire would you recommend?

Many Thanks!

If you're doing like for like then go for "medium/higher".

I put the digital calipers on my Foundation 5 and 2.3mm was the fret width.

Thanks Kodiablair!

The sizing makes sense. And it's Dan Erlewine's favorite fret wire to boot.
