Foundation "S" bass question

Post by patriotpv » Tue May 16, 2017 8:14 pm

I have found several pics (and sale ads) for PEavey Foundation "S" basses.

However --- they all have black hardware ---mine has silver or chrome. ...not that it matters just curious if anyone has any feedback.
The headstock is also Grey not black like others I have seen.

Just curious --- love this thing and it ads nicely to my Peavey collection.

Hey patriotpv.

You're not alone. My Foundation S ,while the headstock is definitely black, has all chrome hardware.

It's from 1986.
After your post I did a Google image search,we definitely are not alone with the chrome hardware.

Does anyone know waht the pickups are???

They are NOT superferrite. When purchased the "P" pups where wrapped with electrical tape ---looked to be broken in some way (but sounded fine) so I found some replacements on ebay and swapped em out.
I see the pups say " Made in Germany" on the covers.......

I see Foundations came with the P/J set up or 2 soapbars.....

Any info would be appreciated. Brand etc. I do know they are 5.75K

I have an extra set now (PBX only) -- the pups where fine the covers where shattered ......if anyone is interested PM me Id let em go cheap.

@patriotpv

Peavey got Schaller to make copies of Dimarzio pickups and that's what's in the Foundation S.

It was a genius move by Peavey as there wasn't much in the way of aftermarket pickups except Dimarizos back then.

Saved them a bundle by not using a "name" brand :D
Mind you the Schallers wouldn't have been cheap,German expertise and engineering never is.

Peavey had many "genius" moves and innovations back in the "day" -----

The cases on mine where held together with electrical tape----I found a replacement MATCHING set on ebay (love ebay) and the new (used) non damaged ones are in....however....the old ones work great just need new cases....

Wonder if they will fit in the Unuty bass........

Speaking of the Unity--- anyone know what PUPS are in those beasties???
