Peavey 212 SX enclosure Please Help

Post by Oledoc73 » Wed Jul 27, 2016 5:49 pm

I just purchased an SX 212 cabinet 4 ohm serial number 6E-02491785. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the date of manufacture and what variety of speakers it contains, and any pertinent facts regarding it. Thanks

Well, if it's the cab, I'm thinking it is then it's a 1983 model. The speakers are 12" Scorpion speakers. These are ported along the bottom edge across the entire length of the baffle. These are one of the very best sounding 2x12 speaker cabinets I have ever played thru. I have one of these and will never part with it. I pulled the stock Scorpions out a while back and installed a pair of old EVM12L speakers in it. I have this paired up with a an old 70's SF Fender Twin Reverb converted to a head unit. It's by far the best sounding amp I have ever played thru. I hope you enjoy your cab as much as I do mine.

1986

If the number has a two digit prefix, it may give a clue as to the date for some products.

For example, a two digit prefix such as 6A followed by five or six numerals would indicate a 70's product ("A" is for amp, "E" is for enclosure), and the prefix indicates the year. If the prefix is followed by 8 numerals, you have a 80's product and again, the prefix indicates the year.

So:

5A-12345 would indicate 1975
7A-123456 would indicate 1977

6A-12345678 would indicate 1986

After 1989, this system is no longer used, 00-12345678 means 1990 or later.
