Hi guys,
I got a lead on an old 6x12 cabinet. Unfortunately the seller doesn´t know any details of wattage and ohms. There is a back plate but only the serial number is printed there.
I´m planning to use it for bass but if it´s a guitar cabinet I guess the speakers will be damaged when I plug in my 500 watt bass amp.
Does anyone know what it could be?
6x12 cabinet? Anyone know anything about it?

Cab MIGHT be a Bass Cab since it has horn on-board.

Ok, as I understand it the cab was first bought in the beginning of the 80´s.
Isn´t there any website with information about vintage Peavey spekers?
I guess that Peavey hasn´t released that many 6x12" cabs so it shouldn´t be impossible to figure out which model this could be

If you call or email Peavey Customer Support with the serial number, they will be able to help.
Check the Support section of their website for the contact info.
Some other thoughts:
- check the overall impedance & the internal wiring as you never know what busy hands may have done. Thye could be wired in all sorts of unique series / parallel combinations that may or may not affect your head. Three 8 Ohms in series and then paralleled with three 8 Ohms in series would give you a nice 12 Ohm cabinet. Three 8s in parallel, then in series with 3 8s in parallel would give you a 5.3 Ohm cabinet. If all 6 are in parallel, you are looking at a 1.3 Ohm load which may blow your head.
- Being as old as it is, if you put a 500W head on it, the might blow anyway, again depending upon how it's wired.
- If your head is 500W into a 4 Ohm load, then it puts out ~45 volts at full tilt boogie. If you run that into a 12 Ohm load, your looking at 166W. If you try it into a 1.33 Ohm load, the amp will have to try to put out just over 1500W and that would probably be catastrophic.
Hope this helps and best of luck to you.

While your inside there, copy down any numbers you can find on the speakers. There will almost always be a manufacturer code like 67-xxxx which would be an Eminence speaker, followed by a date code. There is often another number like 10422 which may give info like 10 inch, 4 ohm, 22 oz. magnet. There are numerous places to decipher this information on the web.SemperFiSound wrote:- check the overall impedance & the internal wiring as you never know what busy hands may have done.

Thanks for the tips guys!
I have asked the seller for the serial number and will try to convince him to open up the cab to have a closer look at the speakers and the wiring.

Great! Thanks!
Unfortunately this means that I´m not gonna buy the cabinet. The information in the PDF says me that this cabinet is for guitar/piano/organ and 210w in 2 ohms is not enough for bass playing in a loud rock band. Especially not with an amp that gives 500w@2ohm

my brother has a Peavey Roadmaster Super Festival series 200W tube head with the 6x12 cabinet. It is from the mid to late 70's.

I know this is old, but I had this exact cabinet. I got it from a store in Portland OR. back in 1975. It came with the Peavey Roadmaster Festival Series 200w head and it was great. Not sure on the configuration of the speakers as far as Ohms & wiring. I ended up selling it in 1978, Our band had split up and it was time to get a "real" steady job. I would have kept it but it was way too much for my needs. I mean this thing screamed and I really couldn't play it at low volume and get the sound I desired (apartment living), and man it was heavy... But that Roadmaster head worked well with it.
