Looking to upgrade TLS 5X cabs

Post by Magallanes » Mon Feb 27, 2017 9:45 pm

Let me state for the record that I am not a sound engineer. I am a musician.
I am looking to upgrade (driver, woofer, crossover) a couple of TLS 5X.
I have a rock band and have had the speakers for about 10 or 12 years.
I already replaced the 14XT for SKP DR-1440 going through (on the positive lead) a SKY MKT-19 2.2uFK 250V capacitor under advice from a local music&sound store guy. Is there a better option I can get to make it happen? or should I just leave as is/replace them with OEM's?

Thanks in advance for your input & responses!! And please be gentle!!

Honestly? If you need to upgrade speakers you're probably better off, in both performance and pocketbook, to just buy newer cabinets. You can find good used cabinets that are upgrades from your TLS cabinets cheaper than you can buy components to upgrade your old cabinets. Just do a little searching. For instance, I've got a pair of SP5's in my shop that would walk out the door for $175.00. That's less than you would spend for a couple 15" speakers to put in your old TLS cabinets.

Don't believe me. I'm just guessing.

Thanks @Josjor That is certainly one of my options. Getting a few modern/lightweight cabs and using the TLS' as bass cabs.

Thanks for your response!!

Well... I got them fixed!! Turns out the speakers were fine. The crossovers however were toasted, literally!!
