Hey Peavey forum! I bought a set of Subcompact 18's a while back and I ordered a set of pole mounts like these:
https://www.parts-express.com/penn-elco ... d--245-019.
The reason I haven't installed them yet is that I can't decide on the perfect place on top to mount them. My first inclination is to put them a few inches to the rear of where the voice coil would be if viewed from the top. I figured this would be close to being in line phase-wise to most tops but I keep thinking about it.
Any help would be appreciated. These subs do what we need them to do at the places we play.

What speaker cabinet do you intend to mount on top of these subcompact 118s? They might tend to topple over if they are too large or too heavy.

Right now we're using SP6G's but that could change. Thanks.

The subs are in the band trailer and have been, so I haven't had a chance to find their center of gravity, btw. I just thought SOMEBODY would have done this.

Mark. There is the true acoustic phase that is much more important. You'll have to get a measurement tool of some sort and a crossover with the proper delay times available to do it right. Smaart has a nice system.
As for a cup on top I did that to an older set I had. Inside the box there is a brace close to center that will have to be cut as well. With a hole saw its a pita as the total cut depth is over 2 inches total if I remember right but it can be done. Take a handle off (the one you can see where your cup is going) to see what your looking at.
All this said I find the subcompacts sound best when coupled together. Splitting them up l/r will not give the most output.

Doug, I do have Smaart v6 and could do the impulse measurements, but I don't think that it matters that much. Thanks for the info, BTW. May scrap the whole idea, though and figure out another way to get the tops in the air.

My pole mounts are 5" deep. Think I'll need help with this plan.

If I were doing it, I would use the mount that is becoming more and more common with manufacturers. It's the 20mm threaded mount like the one Peavey uses on their PVxP sub. You would have to get different top poles, but they work really well and I think you'll see a lot more of them as they become the industry standard. A big advantage is they don't wobble around like the simple pole mount tends to do.Mark10 wrote:My pole mounts are 5" deep. Think I'll need help with this plan.

Josjor, that is an excellent suggestion! It was silly of me to not think of the threaded mount option, especially since I work at the local Peavey dealer!
