PR 10 Horn RX 14 Oily substance

Post by geoseg » Mon Jun 19, 2017 6:18 pm

The speakers sounds like the horn diaphragm was blown. It tests 7.2 ohms. I took it apart and the coil is fine, however there is an oily substance on the coil and in the diaphragm. Any thoughts on this issue. Thank you

That is the ferrofluid. The driver uses it to ensure proper operation. It helps with heat, coil alignment, and dampening.

Thanks very much, so the horn must be ok.
