PVXP15 Woofer Issue....
PVXP15 Woofer Issue....
Second gig on a new PVXP-15 and the woofer is not working. The horn seems to be fine. Any thoughts? The other speaker (I bought two) seems great. VERY DISAPPOINTING.
Re: PVXP15 Woofer Issue....
Sometimes things happen and it could be a bad woofer. But I would take the thing apart and make sure it isn't something super simple like a speaker lead that came loose.
Re: PVXP15 Woofer Issue....
Thanks for the reply! Will do. What else could it be?
Re: PVXP15 Woofer Issue....
OK...everything looks connected. Still only the horn working. Any other suggestions? I'll take any advice!

Re: PVXP15 Woofer Issue....
While you have it open, you can remove the speaker wire leads from the woofer (take note of the positive and negative). Wrap a couple of short wire leads (6 inches or so) to the woofer terminals and quickly "tap-touch" a used, weak 9-volt square battery to the two wires. You should hear a healthy "thump" sound when contact is made. If you don't hear a thump or pop sound, the woofer must be fried. If you do hear a thump, then the problem could be in the crossover.

Will do! THanks!
Re: PVXP15 Woofer Issue....
Ok...sent the speaker to a Peavey Repair SHop.......$399 for a replacement amp for this speaker. I paid less than that brand new! Any thoughts on how I can fix this speaker? I'm in shock. 2 gigs of use.
Re: PVXP15 Woofer Issue....
If it's as new as you said, it should be covered under warranty. Contact Peavey directly or the dealer you bought it from. I think (KNOW) that whatever repair shop you took it to is taking you for a ride.Teeboy wrote:Ok...sent the speaker to a Peavey Repair SHop.......$399 for a replacement amp for this speaker. Re: PVXP15 Woofer Issue....
My issue is that I've had the speaker for a while. I just didn't use it...so, I'm certain the warranty has expired. Just a shame. Is there an "after-market amp that would work in the speaker? Very disappointing.

Re: PVXP15 Woofer Issue....
If the horn is working when everything is connected, then it seems that the amp is working. It just is not able to reach the woofer (assuming the woofer is good). That would seem to indicate a fault in the crossover. If the woofer is not good, then you simply need a replacement woofer. Did you try touching a 9-volt battery to the leads to the woofer when it is dis-connected from the amp?
Re: PVXP15 Woofer Issue....
I will do that....still waiting on it to return from the local Peavey repair shop.......ugh.
Re: PVXP15 Woofer Issue....
What is "a while"? If you didn't register it, the speakers amplifier is warranted for two years. If you did register it, it's warranted for five years.
Re: PVXP15 Woofer Issue....
Hmmm. May be in that 2 year span.....Is there a way to know or just looking back at my purchases?
Re: PVXP15 Woofer Issue....
I would suggest contacting whoever you bought it from or looking in your records. Then contact Peavey. If it's the amplifier section, you can send just that back to Peavey in Meridian, MS for repair.
