Sub decisions pvx or sp2 118

Post by Ctz76110 » Mon Jul 17, 2017 10:22 pm

I am trying to decide which set of subs to purchase. I do all types of music in small to medium sized venues up to 250- 300. I am trying to decide between 2 pvx subs or 2 sp2 118 subs. I have 2 pvx 15's that I use for mains. I would only be running a qsc gx7 (for now) if I go with the sp2 subs.
Specs state that pvx subs have a Max spl of 127db, and the sp2 118 have a Max spl of 126db. Other than being able to expand my set up later what would be the advantage of choosing the sp2 subs. Both pairs cost about the same also.
Any advice would be appreciated.

The SP118 subs have a peak power handling capability of 2400 watts versus the PVXp's 850 watts. You can get lots more volume from the SP than from the PVXp.

What is confusing me is the max spl rating on the specs. Pvx subs 127 db and sp2 subs 126 db. I think im not interpreting the specs right. I thought that the pvx subs were some how achieving the same max spl with 1/3 the peak power as the sp2 subs :?: thanks for the help.
I am leaning toward the sp2 subs because i would rather have to turn down the bass than not have enough.
