DM-112 clipping issue

I have a pair of DM-112 powered speakers that ive been practicing with and have yet to use them outside the "studio" environment.
I have all my vocal mic levels set correctly, have reduced the output on the speaker volume to about the 10:00 position and the mixer output set well below the possibility of over powering the output.

When doing some karaoke type vocal practicing, on powerful vocals the speakers are clipping at a point that i would normally not expect them to, especially at the position i have the volume set to on the speaker.

I have a mild amount of compression set on the mixer (yamaha).

Any advice on where i should be setting something differently or is it simply a mic control thing?

Turn your speaker volume to about the 3:00 position and turn down your mixer master volume.

Thank you, i'll try that (although the master was not that high) i guess putting more power out at the speaker amp and less input will balance out?

I just took a look at your manual. Is your "Mic/Line" switch set to the "Mic" or "Line" position? Running a line-level signal from a mixer requires that switch to be set to the "Line" (out) position to avoid over-driving the input. You probably already thought of that, but I thought it was worth a mention.

I'd also mention that if you're using the single knob compressor on the Yamaha mixer, if gotten into very deeply, will sound like clipping. At least that was my experience with them, but to be fair, that was a few years ago and they may have changed the design.

are you resetting the mic gain for the powerful voice?

Hello again,
So yes, input set to Line.
The compressor is set to about 9:00
The speaker led is flipping to red and that crackling/clipping sound comes about when the voice hits a loud point, which if i back off the mic helps.
an example would be say like in "Can you feel the love tonight" when you really belt out the vocal, the speaker will clip, while the actual mic channel on the mixer is not peaking, and the mixer output is still in the "yellow" zone.

Oddly, i dont recall having this type of thing happen with a non-powered speaker. Been using peavey amps and SP series speakers since high-school. I had a set of alto TS110 that i upgraded to the peaveys and probably just needing to find the sweet spot to balance everything out.

I am going to try some different things over the weekend to see what is better or worse.
