Compressor in the CS400

Post by Mike H. » Thu Jul 06, 2017 1:27 pm

FINALLY got my 89 CS400!!!

She sounds great powering my little PV110's. My question is, what does the compressor do? If I pull the volume knobs it's supposed to defeat the compressor. I didn't really have time to really play with the amp because I have to go to work in a bit.

It's supposed to detect clipping and activates to help prevent frying your speakers. Personally I would not defeat the DDT.

It is more of a limiter. It only activates when your amp would be clipping. If it detects that your amp is up to clipping level, it won't let it go any louder. Like a rental truck with a 55mph governor, once you get up to 55, you can press down the accelerator all you want but it goes no faster.

If you turn it off, the amp is free to clip, which sounds awful.

Darn few situations i which I would disable the DDT, so yes, leave it on.

Will do. The amp is a little too powerful for my 10's so hopefully I won't blow them out.
