Looking to power my two PV215s

Post by jamesreina » Wed Aug 23, 2017 2:22 pm

Hey, I'm looking to power my two Peavey PV215s 700w/4 ohm each. My budget is realistically around $300. I've been looking at the GX5 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018 ... PDKIKX0DER(which is $100 over my budget) and also the iNUKE NU3000 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LG ... U3TM4D2QAV).

I'd prefer to go with the cheaper, iNUKE, but I also want an amp that will allow these speakers to reach their potential. Do you guys have any suggestions?

The mixer that I have already and will be using is the Numark iM9.
Second question: What sort of wires will I be needing to connect everything, this is the first time I've setup a system like this.

You need to run 75 - 80% of your speakers program power to be safe. Thats 525 to 565 watts each. Your speakers are 4 ohm the QSC GX5 will put out 700 watts x 2 at 4 ohms. That is 100% of your speakers program watts. That will work but dont push it, listen to your speakers for distortion and dont send the amp into clipping.
I can't comment on the inuke amps but i have a couple of QSC GX amps and have run them for up to 7 hrs with NO problems.

Dont buy cheap wires, GC has lifetime warranty wires for decent prices. To gofrom the GX5 to your speakers you can use 1/4" to 1/4" wires or speakon to 1/4" witrd. Buy 12gauge wires.

To go from your mixer to GX5 amp use XLR cables or wires with rca on one side and 1/4" on the other end.

I assume your mixer line outs are balanced outputs: either TRS 1/4" or XLR. I know the inuke inputs are balanced. the power outputs use speakon connectors. We use speakon to 1/4" speaker cables for our PV215s. Our old PA (Peavey powered mixer) put out 300W RMS/ channel and drove the PV215s just fine w/o clipping, noise or distortion.
