cs800x bad b channel

Post by novice1972b » Wed Sep 06, 2017 6:15 pm

both preamp boards work only on the a channel, so I guessing
there both ok, the b channel relay won't engage, I tested the 3
thermal breakers, channel a is open, the center one thats
riveted to the heat sink is also open, channel b is closed. so I
switched channel a's thermal breaker to channel b and the relay
engages but no power light on channel b and no output, no matter how I have the pre amp boards channel a works. I didn't
install the shorted thermal breaker in channel a to be safe. I'm sure I'm leaving out details. should this amp be ditched, or is it worth fixing?

Please put the thermal breakers back where they belong. They are not the same, so even if there is a bad one, it needs to be where it belongs.

The one in the middle controls the fan and is SUPPOSED to be normally open. It closes when it gets hot to speed up the fan.

The ones bolted to the tops of transistors are there to shut down each channel if it overheats. They are normally closed, and open when hot. They break the main V- rail to the channel.

If one of the channel thermals is open, it is the bad one, the good one is not "shorted" is it normally closed.

As to the channel clicking on with the good thermal, make sure the amp is set for stereo and not bridge.
