Peavey 32FX mixer board issue
Peavey 32FX mixer board issue
Hi folks,
We have a Peavey 32FX mixer board that we use in our church and is about a year old or maybe even less than year old. Recently we have noticed that the main speakers and subs go out during service, but the monitors will work fine. There is no signal (level) lights on board, when this happens. I thought it was the amps, but there is power going to it, no issues or warning lights showing on the amps. When this happens, I shut the board down and then turn it back on everythig works normally. What could be the problem here? Is it the board acting up or something else?
Also, did the firmware update few months ago!

Re: Peavey 32FX mixer board issue
retho,
If you do a search for "32FX" and "issues" or just read the pertinent topics in the Mixer section you'll find numerous potential answers. The most problematic fix is to send it back to Peavey under warranty for a daughter card replacement as there were some issues with something there - if that is your problem.
Wooferhound has posted numerous things to try and so has "jim h" - who is Peavey's mixer engineer. If those two wrote it, it's coming from the burning shrubbery.
Best of luck,
Steve

Re: Peavey 32FX mixer board issue
So, I guess I'll have to take the mixer to an authorized service center to get it fixed. I hope it won't take that long to replace the card, since we don't have a back up mixer to use in our church.

Re: Peavey 32FX mixer board issue
I ma sure the actual man-hours are less than one day, and if you know your local dealer, maybe he could have the daughter card on order for you and in place before you drop off the mixer.
In the mean time, others have evolved some pretty cool work-arounds while they wait for service.
Best of luck,
Steve

Re: Peavey 32FX mixer board issue
I have had the same issue with both my 16FX & 24FX. The 16FX was repaired (Daughter board replaced) but has failed again. I am waiting for my 16 to return before the 24 is fixed. This problem only affects the MAIN L/R outs.
So what to do in the meantine...????
When you have this intermittant problem you loose ALL DSP functions....so forget about using onboard EQs, compressor , reverbs etc. best to use RCA adaptor to 1/4TRS & use RECORD outs. This can be a problem if you have outboard gear such as a VSX26 which MUST have balanced input. What we do is use the subgroup outs....this works fine. The output meter LEDS will not show while the mains are out....but input levels (pfl) are not affected.
Hope this helps.....Brad

Re: Peavey 32FX mixer board issue
thanks for this additional information Brad. This is same issue we are having the mains just go out and the monitors work fine. I'm going to take the board on Monday to the service center, hopefully they can fix this issue. I guess if this happens again, will have to use the subgroup outs. Anyways, how many years of warranty does this mixer have? Ours is a 1.5 years old, but have only used it about a year now.
Re: Peavey 32FX mixer board issue
The standard warranty is 2 years, but if you take the time to register it online it gets extended to 5 years.
I think........and am pretty sure.

Here's the link to register you're product: http://www.peavey.com/support/warranty/index.cfm?site=1
And here are the terms of the warranty, including the time frames covered for various product groups: http://www.peavey.com/support/warranty/warrantytext.cfm
And hey!! I was right!! 2 + 3 years for mixers. It's not often my old brain remembers something correctly!

Re: Peavey 32FX mixer board issue
Registered the board today for the warranty. The mains worked fine last night during service and then this morning it would not work. I'm taking it to the service center tomorrow and hopefully they can get this issue fixed quickly.
Re: Peavey 32FX mixer board issue
Just curious! How much does the daughter card cost...approximate amount?

Re: Peavey 32FX mixer board issue
Should be free under warranty....
Re: Peavey 32FX mixer board issue
I know, but only have 10 months left on the waaranty because the additonal 3 year warranty requires that the peavey warranty card mailed in within 90 days of purchase.
So, In case this happens again I have an idea how much it might cost.

Re: Peavey 32FX mixer board issue
Just an update! I took the mixer board to get it fixed last week and today the service center called me saying they have fixed the problem. This is what they said to me through the phone, there was some kind off internal effects issues and some kind of resistor that didn't have the right value, so they had to replace the resistor. I'm not sure if they did anything with the internal effects, but will find out more details when I go to pick it up. Also, they didn't mention anything about the daughter card.
Thanks.
Thanks.
