24FX FOH going silent

Post by Khaveer » Thu Jun 12, 2014 5:02 pm

Hello. I've been using 24FX for some time and I keep getting the FOH silence issue. It can randomly go silent after using the mixer for a while. I read the forums, so I know what's the problem. However I don't want to send the mixer to a service because of shipping costs etc. I called the the local Peavey distributor/service and I was told that they never heard of this issue before. If I understand correctly the problem is caused by a few capacitors having a wrong value, right? Can I replace them myself?

Hello!!!
I have the same issue with the FX16 mixer - master output going off and on randomly... though, sometimes it works perfectly (like when I gave it to a service!!!)

I found out that the thing is in the digital processing section, cause in those moments when it goes off (no sound coming from the master section) the aux outputs 1,2,3,4 are working correctley in my monitors, and also the REC OUT works correctly, but with no efects, so I am now using REC OUT for my FOH (only efects go on and of...).

Please, can somebody HELP, how to solve this problem?
thank you in advance!!!

Fixing the issue is quite simple. You just have to solder 2 additional components to the digital board. Please send a message to Jim, he will explain what you need to do. If you don't know how to solder I'm sure you'll find someone who will do it for you.

wow, cool!!! I already applied for friendship with "Jim H", so I could PM him, just waiting for his response...
I do have a friend here in Rijeka, Croatia who maintains all my studio and live equipment, so he'll know what to do if Jim H replys with the solution and shemes...

khaveer, thx for your quick response!!!
all the best,

This is correct. More efficient power supply, and new dual DSP engine processors that are so far bug free (knock on wood) I do about 2-3 shows a month with my 16FX2.

I had a small part in helping Jim to debug the firmware before the updates became available on the peavey website. All firmware updates come peavey internally now, not a 3rd party coding partner like the first FX generation.

if you run into any issues with the FX2 (or even the first gen FX) def post on here. Many resident smart guys available. Jim H is the top dog at Peavey for the Mixer division so you are in very good company.

I have had some weird problems with my older FX mixer recently. I must say that my hired help has dropped the mixer at some point and there is a significant dent on the left top corner of the mixer. The problem is that the Gain control on a channel becomes inoperative. I opened it up and with a magnifier glass found some solder slivers in the boards. I used a paintbrush and brushed out the total interior. and fixed it the first time, but this problem keeps coming back on different channels on every 2nd show.
Anyway it's kind of strange. The gain is not adjustable but not normally a big problem.

I fixed mixer by Jim H instructions.
Yesterday my band had 6 hour live performace and everything worked perfectly.
No silent issues any more.
Thanks a lot Jim H.
