If anyone does, it would be Enzo. Maybe he will see your post and chime in.

Thanks. I hope so. As the schematic must have left a vital piece of info out. I have been in the repair business since 1977 so I kinda know what I am doing and this is indeed confusing.
Since I am new here I cannot contact him directly. So....
Enzo, if you see this please help if you can
Many kind regards
Peter

Look over on the right side of any post and you will see the word "Contact" and a tiny envelope icon. Click on that and you will usually see a place to send an email to that person. You can hunt around and find one of Enzo's posts and email him with your question. (He might curse me roundly for referring problems to him). He knows his stuff.

Don't see the envelope. and when I try to make a private message it says I am to new to use this feature.
I can only pray now...

XDR680 plus

Post by pblietz » Fri Feb 03, 2017 2:24 pm

Hello all. I know this is an old unit but my customer really wants it fixed. He brought it to me disassembled and with some schematics and some parts as he had somebody else attempt a repair. I checked all the components on the 304s board and found everything to be fine. I am having some trouble understanding how the speaker is connected to this board. The schematic show the summed output for the output transistors going to Chasis ground and to one side of a thermal breaker. The other side of that breaker is tied to the centertap of the power transformer. For the life of me I cannot figure this out. the 10 amp fuses feeding the rectifiers on this board blew however there appears to be no shorted or damaged component that would cause this. I am perplexed. I have been in this business since 1977 so I am kinda experienced but this has got me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
many kind regards
peter

It's been a long time since I've seen one of those, but if my memory is right, the speaker output is the center tap of the transformer. It's a driven supply amplifier.

I haven't located a complete schematic, so I'm not sure I can help you.

It's not normal for a fuse to blow for no reason at all...you really need to be sure everything is ok before "hitting the switch".

thanks Jim. I have not been able to find anything yet. Amazing that in all my years I have not come across one of those .
So much left to learn

I would bet someone in our service department may be able to point you in the right direction.

so after staring at the schematic and the unit for what seems like forever, it would appear to me the speaker jack board must be connected in series with the thermal breaker. can anybody out there confirm this please

The positive side of the speaker is connected to the thermal breaker and the negative side is connected to chassis.

thank you. we will see what we will see.
so just to be clear speaker + goes to thermal breaker. other side of breaker is transformer centre tap.Speaker - goes to summed outputs of the output drivers as the schematic shows that point as chassis gnd.
thanks for your help and patience in this
